View Full Version : pair of trainers thrown over a phone cable ?
seen this latley?
i though that some poor kid had just got his trainers nicked, & his mates thought it would be a laugh to sling them up on the telephone cable so he could not get to them.
but aparantly there is a meaning behind this
I've seen it, don't know the meaning though.
I just figured the same as you, kids having a laugh.
Get a lot of gang fights by you?
Its usualy a death or a punishment in the Ghettos of america and suchlike, all gang related.

Well when my kids were teenagers (only a couple of years ago) this was something they used to do at the end of school. When the 5th formers left officially at end of May (like now) this was one of the things thay did to 'celebrate'. They did this in both York and Ruthin.
IIRC they go back to do thier exams than all meet for a final day in school signing each other's shirts etc. Then later on have a major party.

I encountered problems with slip on shoes ;)
it can mean a number of different things.
Depends on wher you are.
Most common Gang code: Territory/boundary markings.

OT - grinch, your avatar disturbs me :(
OnT - more american hip-hop culture making it to our shores. No need for any of this violence, I really dont understand it

Wow, things a lot different in the 'nice' places I have lived!

No...
Surely in good old England this just means 'kids having a laugh', not 'gang-related' ! I have been seeing trainers / other laced shoes slung over wires for at least twenty years.
We're not in LA you know!

I live in warrington nearly all my life and i've seen loads of times from when I was at school to present day.
As for the meaning, I think it depends on where you live. Around here it's usually kids having a laugh or bullying, not gang related at all.
I've also seen Bra's, knickers, belts and the odd T.shirt.
At shell Island there was quite a few bra's hanging from one particular tree. I have no idea what that was all about

If trainers on phone line be of both same foot then maybe answer more be simple? maybe trainers be stolen from shop and ladron be chased by Poli? Thief be throw trainers away to not be caught with evidence.Big throw see them catch on phone line?
:winner:
So if that's what it means, why isn't there a pair of trainers hanging on almost every phone line on my old street.
Oh wait, they probably figured it was easier to do it the other way around
