I dont know if its a myth or not but I have heard that you can jump start an SV but attaching jump leads onto certain points of the frame if you dont have the tools with you to get into your battery, is there any truth in this???

It *might* be possible to use part of the frame for the earth lead and go direct to the starter relay as this gets a direct battery +ve feed I believe.
Might try it as my battery is doing dodo impressions at the minute too :(

I've done it with leads to a BMW M5 :D And i've bump started it down the road aswell by dumping the clutch and giving a bit of throttle. Most annoying thing i did was trying to start while the immobiliser was armed :D
Black lead on a frame bolt, one of the engine mounting bolts is best and touch the red lead on the bolt that the starter motor wire connects to, under the rubber cover at the front ;) all it does is get the starter motor turning so make sure the ignitions turned on and its in neutral
AA man taught me how to do it and i showed the RAC man how to do it a while ago cause he had no idea about bikes what so ever

Thanks
I just run alongside mine like a madman with it in 2nd and cluth in. LEap high into the air and land my @rse on the seat as I dump the clutch and give it some throttle. It's not as difficult as people make out. I can start my 900 monster this was so the SV is easy by comparison.

I tried this in shoes rather than bike boots , the rear wheel caught my lace and i dropped the bike.
Luckily it wasnt my SV!! but an old heap of a FZ400.
i have to do this every day at the mo to the kwak zephyr i have, as the alternator has gone,
run along side the bike while its in 2nd gear and holding clutch it then jump on the bike and let the clutch out and off i go home
been oing this for 3 weeks, its the reason i got the sv tbh

When bump starting a bike make sure you can always reach the clutch - otherwise the tighter you hang onto the throttle the quicker the bike goes - and strangely enuf it all happens in slow motion despite yer legs moving at 90mph. So I am told
Also if towing a Motorbike behind a car to bump start it, make sure the tow rope does not start to wrap itself around the front wheel - as the car gets closer fairly quickly.

I am puzzled - having helped bump start a car on several occasions I found that you never use 2nd gear 'cos you just grind to a halt without turning the motor when the clutch is let out. 3rd or 4th usually work fine. But you guys are using 2nd gear for bump starting a bike - has anyone tried 3rd or 4th and if so, is it better?

I don't know why you would want to do that way running alongside of the bike hold in the clutch in jump on let the clutch go and your off :riding:1st gear will do it i have done it before, left my lights on came back battery was dead its the safest way i think anyway hope it helps

OR you could just buy a jumper pack like I've got for emergency...you usually find them in the boot of cars..big yellow thing that contains a charged battery, with jump leads...plonk them on the battery( or frame and starter plug thing if you can't be bothered taking off the seat) turn it on, and you try your start button on your bike......et voila rrrrrooooooooaaaaaarrrrr!
Bu that only works if your at home, they cost about 35 quid

You're talking balls again lou :-P I've only shown you this about 10 times hehe
As soon as you put the red lead to the contact on the starter motor, it'll wind the starter over, so switch the ignition on when you do this or else it'll just flood it. (no ignition y'see)

1st gear on my bike does not work - it locks up the rear wheel and might spit you off, hence the suggestion to use 3rd or 4th..........................
