View Full Version : Dogs are idiots sometimes.
Y'know, I can have my two rabbits out in the garden and my wee beastie of a mutt will barely give em a sniff.
Back in his formative years, when I had a pet Iguana, he'd either ignore her or hide on the sofa if she chased him.
But for the past three years I've not been able to break one seemingly endless fascination. The scene in my garden this afternoon:

The object of his concentration:

Kodo (the dog) just can't seem to fathom out this movable rock.
For his part, Gordon (the Tortoise) is oblivious of everything unless it's a dandelion. Hell, he even headbutts the rabbits out of the way if they're sitting on one.
Either a) Kodo believes there is a small animal trapped inside a box and so it needs to be rescued (trust me, this dog is that soppy)...
... or b) the agitation is born of paranoia that Gordon's conspiring against him with something else in that shell of his.
Dumb mutt.
I think b) probably if he,s anything like mine :D

This reminds me of the unfortunate incident in the Blue Peter garden (Yes I am that old) when one of the dogs (may well have been Goldie?) ravaged the BP tortoise. Does anyone else remember this? I seem to remember pieces of shell flying all over the place. Tortoise survived tho - I think :smt102

I have an endless fascination with the people in shops who move at a tortoise pace. I too want to give them a shove out the way of the aisle I'm in!

I think i'd go with option B above lol.... i just confuse Lupo by opening the dvd/cd draw on the dvd player with the remote, proper freaks him out.
Dogs are the funniest little beasties.
Mines fascinated with torchlight, if you switch a torch on and shine it on the floor he just goes mad for it, he,s a right nutter :bounce:

Move at tortoise pace...
... HA! Gordon doesn't half shift it when he gets a dandelion flower in his sights. the way he stomps across the run makes me want to put a little gun turret on the top of his shell.

:)
Do dogs get like their owners or do the owners get like their dogs?
My old dog use to like a carboard box which when gripped with his teeth flipped over his head, then charge round the garden demolishing anything that got in his way-------------------Nutty animal

Dunno about idiots but we've now found out who the missing sock fairy is in our house.
Just cleaned out the pups bed and found 8 chewed up socks in there, all from different pairs.

My old dog (god rest her soul) used to peer through the gap in the wall at next door's tortoise for hours on end, head on one side, whining and licking her lips

Tortoises are cool.
Looked after a friend's tortoises for a couple of weeks recently. Set up a proper Tortoise enclosure in the back garden.
I loved the blissed out expression on their faces when I put them in a bowl of water. Totally chilled out.
Told the nieghbours that one of the tortoises was called Myrtle. They kept getting tongue tied, calling it "Myrtle the turt...ortoise".
I was surprised to learn that when my mate bought them (online), they were delivered via the post man!
