View Full Version : A wee disclaimer about me and rideouts/events

I'm known for unreliability at the best of times, but thought I should explain something since I'm more likely to be a no-show this year, and not doing some stuff I'd like to... Meant to do this ages ago but I've still been getting my head around it a bit.
I was diagnosed with osteoperosis- eh, quite bad osteoperosis- back in about February, bones like a bird. Long story which, tbh, I don't want to get into at the moment, but that's the reason why I broke my hip, and if I was to have any decent sized accident I'd go home in an ambulance- any big accident and, well, brush and shovel time, I'd break like a dropped glass.
Obviously, everyone wants me to give up the bike, but I found I didn't even have to decide not to do that, it just took care of itself. Never on the cards. But, I'm not completely stupid, so I'm toning things down just a little- which means no trackdays (well, OK, maybe one...) and I'm avoiding any sort of recreational riding in bad conditions. They're not much fun anyway, so no great loss :) Also hopefully, not commuting through next winter. So it means I'll probably miss any marginal rideouts, and at short notice too, just depending on the weather. Nobody can accuse me of being a FWB after 4 scottish winters on 2 wheels though :)
It is a temporary setback, all treatable, already in progress in fact and should have a good prognosis, so don't freak out! But, for the next year or maybe two I do have to watch myself. I'm not the eejit I used to be anyway on the bike so I'm pretty content with the risks, but I'm drawing a few lines where I wouldn't have in the past.
So, there you go. Also, I'm a big unreliable tosser, but that's PURELY COINCIDENTAL, any rideouts I miss from now on are officially nothing to do with that ;)
Wish you the best for your condition, didn't know they could treat
being a big unreliable tosser!

Jim, nope, but I bet you a pound I can do it if you have a manual... Or the 2 of us could have a crack. Not a hard job by reputation...

Sorry to hear Northy, but better a couple of years of taking it easy than a couple of weeks, then an off and never getting back on.
Sounds like Boneitis to me :P
Good news on the treatable front - and you're not becoming a Fair Weather Biker, you're simple going for quality over quantity. ;)

Sorry to hear about the condition Northwind, glad they can treat it though.
I'll say take it easy on the bike but hey I'm stating the obvious there  .
Look after yourself hun and hopefully once I start getting around a bit more I'll see you all about somewhere :smt023
so what your saying is that you are no longer going to bring entertainment value to rideouts. the flip over the handlebar accident when me and tony were behind you will remain with me for ever. makes me smile everytime I think about it.
we will just have to have more pub meets I think.
hope your treatment works.
big hugs. can call you a big wummin now as I have medical research behind me. xxx

Have you considered just fitting stabilisers to your bike. I'm sure that you can get them quite cheap in Halfords. Also, I'm sure that B&Q is doing quite a good deal on great big rolls of bubble wrap....:smt023

Kitkat, you don't get off the hook that easily, I'll still be at rideouts... Just not all of 'em. Hopefully no more over-the-bars though, wouldn't likely get away with that these days. Still, if you need an excuse for more pub nights... drink-outs? then feel free to use this. I may use it as emotional blackmail to convince some folks to come drag racing at Crail, too :smt023
Thanks for the comments folks, really, it's not a huge deal but I thought I should let you know what's up. "Let this new disaster come; it makes but one more" as the man said. There's plenty of folks on here dealing with worse, go and be sympathetic at them instead ;)
Nice of Jim to derail my fishing-for-sympathy thread I thought :smt076 ;) If you've got the online manual, go and fire me over the relevant pages or point me at a link for it, and I'll have a look...
pah,,,sympathy ,,,,no chance ;) ill scan the pages and u can look it over and see if its 'do-able:smt023
