I did my first commute this morning.....awsome.

The usual journey takes between 1hr to 1hr 30 minutes......today it took me 27 minutes exactly.

Its amazes me how many BMW and Merc drivers actually move into your path to prevent you from filtering :smt076

In summary i will commute everyday if i can on the bike, today it was even drizziling abit but thought sod it.

I hear BMW/Merc wing mirrors are unusually easy to remove though.

Glad you enjoyed the commute, although it sounds like you are an urban commuter. No harm in it, just completely different to the commuting that I do.

See? Bikes are saving the planet

I'm trying to tempt my freind onto bikes, as he can sometimes take over 2 hours to come from north london to kingston - a journey that takes me less than an hour even when traffic is heavy

I love my daily commute since being on the bike - even the worst of weathers doesn't stop me. It save time, emissions and leaves me grinning like a cheshire cat everytime.

That said I came in my BMW this morning, didn't pull into the path of anyone on a bike though.

My commute is 1/4 rural along the A60, then half city ring road and 1/4 inner city.

Pants really but much more enjoyable in the morning than not going over 15mph for over an hour.

I feel that an hour on nearly empty NSL roads through Snowdonia beats your commute.

The worst part about it is dropping into Denbigh from the A543.

PS. Side note, bikes do have to pay for parking in Denbigh, both me & the guy with the red Bandit got a ticket the other day for parking in our usual spot. :(

Put a bike cover over your bike, then they cant get your plate. Sure I read in MCN they cant touch your property to get the reg plate. And if they did you could claim they damaged your bike whilst removing stuff that they shouldnt have even been touching.

They can however ask the police to attend & they are allowed to remove the cover for purposes of identifying a vehicle. :(

What gets me, is the fact that it's been parked there every day Mon-Fri for the last 10months, and nothing happened. No tickets at all. Then the other day we both get one :( Maybe it's a new traffic warden??

Cheers though.

I have been commuting on the bike for the past 6 weeks or so and have the same thoughts most mornings when its a bit dull - I find coming to work on the bike sets me up for the day :D

Have fun, been a long time since I rode in Nottingham (before the tram went in), but it always struck me as being *relatively* bike friendly. Plenty of thieving scrotes around though so pay attention to security :(

Oh, and there used to be a little bike park (a 50 yard narrow alley really) just to the right of Vic Centre (as you look at the main entrance) - had two thefts from there so try to keep it near the mouth of the alley if you can :)

My office is in wilford on the outskirts of the city centre, and 50% of the office car park is filled with cars worth over £70k as most of the top guy work from here. So security is good and i can see where i have parked from my office window. :smt055

Well I did my first commute on the GSXR this week. It took slightly longer than I would do it in the car.

First 80 miles Preston - Cannock was slower as I do not like motorway riding, probably averaged about 80-90 whereas in the car I would be 90-100. Then I took the A5 over to Rugby. That was definitely faster than driving it. However at the time of day I would have used the M6 Toll and M6 to Rugby which would have been quicker anyway.

Coming back was a blessing. Filtered through about 5 miles of traffic near the Thelwall viaduct.

Conclusion. Bikes are for playing. I had to leave my laptop behind etc. Cars are for commuting large distances.

Having to get changed in a grotty toilet. lug my leathers/lid/boots to 3 different meeting etc. Worrying about the security of the bike doesn't make the day any easier

Very good :D

I've been using the bike for work most of the week, too. Bit of a dull run to work (Wrexham to Chester) but still much better (and quicker!) than being in the car.

Luckily I can get changed in my office and my textiles go over my work clothes without creasing them. And security is good but I still keep looking out the window :(.

I would only ever ride to work if i knew i didnt have meeting that day and that i didnt have to leave the office.

I have to drive along the A54 once a week past the cat and fiddle for a site meeting :( its gutting would love to take the bike, but the gear i have to take and where i would have to leave it completely make it a no goer:(.

Some riders on here commute 150miles a day - each way!
