I mentioned in another post (might have been my 1st one while saying "hi") that I'm having some electrics issues to say the least!! Hoping someone might offer some info...

I've got a fuse repeatedly blowing...one of the usual suspects that seems to be quite common (20 amp one linked to horn, indicators, brake light, rear light etc etc) and have decided it won't beat me and I WILL fix it on my own (or possibly with some help from this place ;)). Have already taken most of the bike apart and not spotted anything visually, however my eyes are not so experienced and were guided by posts I saw about this problem other people had. Now have a Haynes manual and circuit tester at the ready and a long weekend ahead...

My question is...I get nothing on the display panel at the front due to the fuse being shot however when I disarm the alarm it happily flashes both the indicators and little green indicator light once!! I'm confused!! Is this because the alarm is wired up to them in a way that bypasses the normal circuitry? I'm no electrician...but this seems odd. Please someone put my fuddled mind at rest...:|

In any alarms i've worked on the alarm unit "piggy-backs" wires on to the existing indiactor wires. So when the alarm wants to flash the indicators it applies power directly to the indicators, bypassing the usual switch, and supply.

OK, you got a curvy.

Electrics/fuses :- curvy SVs particularly have a problem of the wiring loom chaffing where it is routed along the subframe. This normally results in major electrics &fuse problems when they start shorting back to earth etc..

In particular look round the area where the wiring loom is routed past the front seat and the bolt mount. Cut off the cable ties and pull the loom away from the subframe. It will only cost 50p for a couple of new ties from you local auto factors so don't worry about them

Yeah that's what I was mainly looking for. All panels off...sides, back, nose...cables loosened up and inspected, all looking unfortunately fine :(

Tried working my way through it with a circuit tester, no joy...but I was clutching a few straws anyway and knew it. Ah well, may as well leave the bike as naked as it is now as it's going to take me ages to put it all back together and the dude in the bike shop is just going to have to take it all apart again...might even save me some labour charges!!

Anyone know the legalities or viewpoints held by our friendly plods if I take it on the road with no mirrors/indicators for a 3 mile ride to my local dealer??? :confused:
