Does any one else think the tool kit position on the SV650 pointy is in a slightly dangerous position. I was just looking at what would happen it the press stud came open and the tool kit would drop straight into the chain.

Has anyone else removed it from the bike?

The potential for it to fall out is enough to worry me to be honest, and you have just stated it can happen.

Might have to get rid me thinks.

Mine is in a pouch, and is a very snug fit into the little box. I don't think it would come out if I removed the box "lid" permanently. If you don't use it then either remove it, or if you don't like the idea of being without any tools (I don't) then seal the box more securely. Bit of black gaffer tape maybe, so you can still get to it if need be.

Mine got moved to under the pillion seat/cowl.

There is now a disc lock living in the tool box bit which is actually more liable to fall out if anything... Ok, I didn't think it through properly.

e.d. you sure yours wasn't stolen, as above mine is so snug I can't believe mine could fall out.

I'm sure, i saw the tool kit when i stopped a few miles from work at the news agents, i noticed the lid already gone but was to lazy to take the tool kit out, so by the time i actually got to work the tool kit was gone.](*,)

I personally think that is a bit of a silly concern but i haven't had any freak accident to tell me differently either

I don't worry about it. I think if it were a problem we'd have heard about it by now. As has been said it's a snug fit (I sometimes struggle to get it in and out) and the way it's orientated there's not much to pursuad it to fall out unless you're cornering hard. So maybe for a track day remove it (but I'd expect peeps to do that anyway). Otherwise it's too damn useful to be without, well the 10mm spanner for the lower radiator mount is anyway.

My disc lock lives in there too, the toolkit got moved to the garage...

Stoopid question alert, but what am I about to discover the hard way about not having the 10mm spanner?

That depends a) on if you ride in the rain b) if your SV is one of those that likes to "go back to basics" and run on one cylinder as mine does.

As I understand it in the wet water gets thrown up by the front wheel towards front cylinder. Some of this water makes it's way into the recess in the cylinder head where the spark plug lives. Now spark plugs don't like water and if you get too much in then you end up riding a 325cc single.

The temporary fix is to dry the plug hole out. Which to me means pulling the plug cap off and stuffing tissue in there to absort the water. Only problem with this is getting to the plug cap cos the radiator is in the way. Here's where the spanner comes in. Undo the lower mounting bolt on the RHS and the rad' swings forward allowing you to just get a hand in there.

I had to do this three times to get home yesterday. So like I say I couldn't afford to be without it. Though I am wondering if I could change the mounting fixing to something quick release.

Fender extenders are a popular way to try and cure the above. Also I belive the pointy is much more succeptable to this than the curveys due to their bikini approach to a front mudguard.

On my K3 the toolkit was under the seat, and I know Suzuki moved the toolkit at the same time they changed the subframe (so it was lower). But, the tail is the same shape, so I don't understand why the toolkit couldn't still be kept in the tail? Is there any reason why K4+ owners can't just put it there again?

Not really any reason not to move it, I keep mine under the seat but now I have less storage space.

Aha! a) Yes (see location!) and b) no (see here (http://forums.sv650.org/showpost.php?p=1187798&postcount=18)!)

Cant put the toolbox under my seat, already got a Scottoiler, sunglasses, map, wipes, cargo net and kitchen sink under there...

from what has been said on the K3 i believe under the seat and then the K4-K7 there is a little external box that comes off the battery box next to the swingarm
