What's the route then folks? I missed last year's Borders Bash and the map is 404 after the forum move.
I seem to recall a bit of road name change jiggery pokery down them parts - A721 becomes the A70 and then A721 again then A71 sort of thing - so a chance to study a map before Sunday might pay dividends for us 'intermediate' riders :-dd
well i recall us getting lost, falling off, carrying bikes over broken bridges as for the route, not a clue lol

Not wrong there Tony!! ;)
I may be joined by my brother-in-law plus two of his mates (VFR, R1200S and and R1). They are on a whistle stop weekend tour of Scotland and this would be a nice route back into England for them. They have started this morning in Banbury and are staying tonight in Fort William (they're gonna have sore arses!!), then they want to see Skye tomorrow, so it will depend if they've made it back down to the central belt and ma hoose b4 tomorrow night.

Can't think of a good place to meet at either town though.
Alternatively, there's always Gala but that's a bit of a shame, the A7's fine as a-roads go but the B709 is just ace. The first section as far as the borders has been all resurfaced and it's fantastic now IMO. Not massively fast though, or massively twisty, just a great varied road. Also, Gala's not a small place and easy to get lost in.
Either of these would work well with a meet-up at either Hillend or the traditional Maybury.

I'm completely confused now that my last post in the thread is quoted in the first post in the thread :)
I like this route a lot. So, hopefully I can be there... The A70 goes right past my house :) So, that might be a sensible start for me, but that might be a bit cheeky. Perhaps I'm trying too hard to get the B709 in there, on the grounds that it's maybe my favourite road since they resurfaced it.

The stuartyboy might make an appearance :p
Is this route a reet twisty one? Might join at Northy's start wherever that is but I'm fearful I won't be able to keep up if the pace gets a bit fruity. All this feckin gear changing and braking, new tyres on the Kwak and my elbow is still not fully recovered yet. Mind you I managed a run to Tyndrum last week but its not the twistiest.
Going out this evening at some point for a practice.

Didn't work for me...
Anyway, I have been catapulted straight in to Plan B by, of all things a dance recital, so I won't make the Newhouse meet/departure or the run down to Hawick :(
Plan B is to M74 it to Moffat and then ride the route in reverse back through Selkirk to Hawick. Either I'm catastrophically late (it's a dress rehearsal, timings are 'fluid') and you'll already have left Moffat in which case I'm goosed or you'll all pass me somehwere and I'll throw in a U turn!

OK folks, I think I've needlessly complicated this for people. What's the actual start time in Newhouse? 10am? There's been closures on the A70, not sure if that's all finished but I think probably not, so I'm chucking that out the window- the simplest way is to just meet at Maybury as usual, then batter through on the M8 and meet you lot <somewhere>, but I don't know where?

gr8 day, started off bad got better then I decided I wanted to jump off a bridge on my bike.
Firstly the easties meeting point - mabury services, had been shut down for refurbishment, meaning I was juping out at every sv passing to tell them where to go... turns out none of them were actually coming on the rideout, so I was left on my loansome. 5 mins after departure time I decide nobody's turning up, so I leave to head towards the west meeting point, as I head out northy pulls up in a car park beside me, and tells me about his little accident so looks like I'm still on my own.
so rideout goes well, except for a minor incident with someone leaving a bag at the previous stop over half an hour away... I wont name names... well mabey I will, connor :smt029
Then I decide to attempt to jump off a bridge into the river, I was blinded by a fly, and got my sight back just in time to catch the corner and just miss the bridge wall.
Apart from that, its been a really good fun day, pitty it ended up clouding up 2wards the end, but a lot of the time we did have the sunshine.

Glad it all went well today and that the number of SVs was up on the last one. Quedos and her mate Kate (another biker) both managed a very respectable 40min for their 5K run despite the sum total of NO training. The course was pretty hilly in places too. Well done girls :smt038
It'll be my turn next with the Gents 10K next Sunday:rolleyes:
Thankfully we both had a good ol' day on the bikes on Saturday which included lunch, ice cream, a pint and finally hand-made crisps:D .

I'm blaming Ducati fuel consumption for that one! You, me and Tony were clipping along at a very nice pace (Careless and the other maniacs having disappeared) when I saw the Duke peal off into a petrol station. I stopped thinking kitkat and Stuarty would appear while we waited but the place was shut (how quaint) so Tony and I resumed.

Nice pics! - glad the weather held up for you further down south - really peeved i missed it but the bikes leccy probs are still on-going so its back to the drawing board - also i broke down just outside dunfermline on sunday evening so had to make the call to green flag, boo hoo! - the sv's engine cutoff mid 80mph+ as i was overtaking on a pretty busy road, needless to say i left a trail of brown bricks behind me and was very lucky not to have a car behind me when it happened!
