But possibly the worst customer service in the entire universe when things dont go accoring to plan. Took 3 months to get a refund on a product that they said was in stock available next day delivery and wasnt!
Other than that, i know a few people that have bought form them with no issues.

I've got one of theirs as well, a 17"... Very good. Much better quality than my big Belinea, but then it's about half the size and would have cost as much new, so that'd explain it.
For a while there were loads of the last model Dell 19" monitors on Ebay, not the Ultrasharp model- I had one of those, it was decent, and the price was right

I've got a 21" Iiyama CRT spare (2 years old?), which you could have for a donation to the site. You'd need to pick it up from the Reading/Newbury area. It's good, but it's big, so you need a substantial desk for it.
I've also got a couple of graphics cards Gigabyte 6600GT PCI-X which work well with it (I used them in SLI mode), again, appropriate donation to the site and they're yours.
If Hovis isn't interested, offer stands for anyone else. Just looking for a donation to the site.
thanx but i have a CRT & want a flat screen type

I've just bought a couple of Philips 19" monitors which are very nice:
http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/catalog/tree/en/gb/consumer/pc_products_gr_gb_consumer/lcd_monitors_ca_gb_consumer/lcd_monitors_18_19_su_gb_consumer/ce/_productId_190X7FB_00_GB_CONSUMER/LCD_monitor+190X7FB_00?proxybuster=DBDC5P4BZMJV5J0 RMRESHP3HKFSEKI5P
They're guaranteed defect free (I think most manufacturers will only replace it if there are more than about 5 duff pixels). A bit more expensive than some of the others, but I'd recommend them.
Philips support is shocking (slow and wrong, and that's just asking about their own products!).
Whilst not necessarily the perfect answer I always have a look at magazine reviews. Two of my regularish (have been subscribed in last 12 months) are Custom PC Magazine - emphasis on performance and PC Pro which is a bit more business like. One will tell you which looks the best for the money, the second will tell you which one looks ok and has best warrany and support package :-)
Both have websites. CPC did a labs test in December http://www.pcpro.co.uk/custompc/labs/40/tft-monitors/products.html and in your budget range Asus PM17TE (http://www.pcpro.co.uk/custompc/labs/100814/asus-pm17te.html) for £135 came out on top, only 17 inch though.

have a look on these sites
www.scan.co.uk (http://www.scan.co.uk)
www.aria.co.uk (http://www.aria.co.uk)
they have some good deals on them
I'd add www.ebuyer.com (http://www.ebuyer.com) to those two
so.........whats the main feature i should be looking at?
& i dont like widescreen tv as it seems to stretch the pictue, will a monitor be the same
thanx
:stupid:
Would you buy a bike based on one feature? I hope not. Sorry it's not that simple. Unless of course you're skint in which case you buy the cheapest you can find. That's what I did with the bike and look where that got me.
Again I'd suggest you at least look at some reviews becuase the numbers do NOT tell the whole story so even if you compare figures for viewing angles, response times, contrast ratio etc.
Computers and TVs are similar in that the output is an image and possibly sound. That's about it. Most PCs will create an output to match what the screen is capable so no it shouldn't get stretched. However some programs (games mostly I think) can't do this so their appearance may be stretched.
BTW get used to widescreen. It's how everying is going to be (and has actually been filmed for some time). If your image is being stretched I think you should point an accusing finger at the TV.
Also worth checking what screen resolutions your (non) Graphics card supports....

I don't think this is much of an issue.
A 17" or 19" non-widescreen TFT is going to be 1280x1024 resolution. If you're PC doesn't support that then you must be starting it up with a cranking handle.
A TFT will run at a lower resolution than it's maximum anyway. It's not a good idea though as it does this by interpolating the image which drops quality.
If you're buying a widescreen TFT with non standard resolution then the modes offered\supported by your GFX adaptor (on board or not) would be a serious consideration.
what do you think of this?

It looks ok. We buy Acer TFTs at work. We've probably bought about 20 in the last year (all the same model). That isn't an absolute vote of confidence in them. However we like them for the following reasons:
* 3 year warranty
* We buy the height adjustable version (that one looks like the fixed height version)
* They work, are a nice size and appearance, we aren't terribly fussy.
I think there are probably better monitors for the money. But I don't think it would be a bad buy. Don't buy it just because there's a theoretical £30off, I thinks that is misleading.
Have you checked out the link I posted?
i did yes.......... but they all look the same to me:confused:
Well if they're all showing the same image they would look similar ;-)
For reference.
Ok just checked. We buy Acer AL1923 TFTs at £153 ex VAT. Ours are height adjustable (and the screen rotates) which makes them a bit more expensive than the fixed base model.
i think im going to get this tomorrow?

Looks ok to me - not what I would buy, but then again, I currently am using a monitor that cost me over £600.
But for a budget monitor, and with nothing other to recommend I dont think you will go wrong with that.

I think that Argos are bound by the distance selling act as well, because you can't see the product before you buy it. So once you've plugged it in to your PC, if you don't like it, you can return if within 7 days for a full refund.
hovis - did you get it? That price of £130 looked ok as I checked and that's what ebuyer sell them for.
SoulKiss - what is it? And what do you do with it to justify that price tag?

If it's not too late - have a look here:
www.europc.co.uk
They do refurb stuff, which is often new but the box has just been opened to check it. I bought a brand new Dell workstation a few years ago and saved about 700 pounds.
Hmm that sounded good - but didn't look too hot. Perhaps it depends on the item. They were selling 15" Dell TFTs for more cash than you can buy a cheap 19" TFT, I know where I'd rather put my money.
This is my one...

Thats where 2 out of my 3 Dell Widescreens came from, as well as Vixis's Toshiba Quosmio and my Tecra M7.
Her laptop developed a HD fault, they sent me out a replacement and I just sent them back the duff drive, all in a day or so.
Sudoxe and TSM, this is the place I was telling you about last night.
i can only see one 19inch on that link & the LG in argos seems better ? but what do i know?
I'd agree with that hovis. I didn't see anything I'd buy on there.
the argos one is still out of stock, so how this?
