I think there might be.

Point 1 :

I dont like the Ducati 1098, I think it looks cheap and to much like a japanese bike.

Point 2 :

When I'm out on Liz's 749, I find myself hankering after my GSXR, In fact to be honest I fricken hate riding Liz's Duke.

Hmm

i saw a 1098 at boxhill a few weeks ago and it looks a bit like a trumpet 675 and tbh i'd rather have the 675!

again i'm not too keen on the 749/999 either (no offence to Liz or anyone else whos got one) they just don't do it for me not ridden one though

nothing wrong with you, i dont much like the looks of any Ducatis , even the 916. everyone bangs on about it, but i think it looks dated now.

i would never buy a duke due to their reliability problems.

but then i thing the R6 and ZX6-R are to of the best looking bike out, so what do i know??

04-06-07, 08:17 PM
Oh dear.Blasphemy being spoken.
I happen to think Ducati reached a design peak with the 916 and it's derivatives so they will struggle for years to make anything that looks better, even if the newer bikes are improved in every other way.
As for riding one I wouldnt know as I havent ridden a Ducati since the late 70s.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so what looks good for one is ugly to the other. its all objective here. ( but i am right LOL )

I DON'T CARE!:D

I like Ducati's (I'm a metrosexual and a bit of a poser too) you don't. It don't matter to me much what you think (although that kinda goes against the whole ethos of bein a poser)............ So in that case, your nuts........ I say lock you up in a padded sell and throw away the key!

1. I don't think the 1098 looks cheap. but it does look a bit Japanese. Not the best looking Ducati, not the ugliest either (Multistrada :puker:)

I prefer the 916 or Agusta. Yes, I have a ****-** for Tamburini. To misquote Scary Movie. lol.

2. Never ridden either, so :smt102

Given that I have never ridden a Duke, and would love to try a 916 (one of the most attractive I would say), [Matrix Reloaded scene comes to mind] I cant get over my "fetish" for a Busa. I think if I had enough cash I would try both, read reviews and make my own mind up.

Whatever makes you grin from ear to ear. For me it's the Vee, for now that is!!!!

So your 750 has spoilt other bikes for you, I doubt that you're the first to find a bike that they feel is perfect for them, and that any lesser bike is a needless step down the ladder.
Part of the reason that I have resisted the temptation to go and try a ss600 is that I'm worried it would spoil the sv for me, and I love it at the moment.

You have to convince Liz to let me do the North South on her Duke. Then I'll be able to confirm you're a freak  ;) :D

I really like the look of the multistrada, never throught I would. No idea if I would like riding it though.
Saying that Jax's Monster is great fun to ride, with the low slung engine you can really throw it about.

its just like every other person wants a Ferrari, MGB etc, its a nostalgic thing maybe. Never owned or ridden one but would guess it has more character than a Jap bike which is why I went for the Trump myself. Reliability and perfection is a Jap thing but doesn't fit with the romantic side of biking. Looks and reliability just aren't important here. (Sorry, I've gone all mushy and old now :) ) (I have a Jap car - does everything perfectly well but its not that inspiring to drive). Bikes are a bit different to some degree I know, Beenz just loves his gixxer more than a loved up ladybug in love.

Its a name instantly recognised by bikers and non bikers etc so you assume you should want one.

I did at one point and looked for a 748 before I settled for the Trump. I still think there is some magic in the thought of owning one.

Initally I liked the 1098. Having seen several in the flesh now though, I do agree I think they look too much like jap bikes. I actually prefer the 999 shape. I have always liked the 999 shape and continue to do so, whereas the past couple of years, my fondness for the 916 shape (which was previously on pretty much level pegging with the 999) has declined.

Aesthetically, I prefer the 749, to your gsx-r, but I've not ridden either so don't know which I'd actually prefer, but I suspect I'd like the 747 more (I like slightly heavier, more 'planted' bikes).

Well, i'll have to see what Liz's 749 rides like next week ;)

As said, you like what you like, end of. I have ridden a few bikes, and i still enjoy getting back on my SV. Ok, compared to some its tiny and cramped, but it still makes me smile.

Well, i'll have to see what Liz's 749 rides like next week ;)

Must take camera, Liz says I make the 749 look small and your much taller than I am.

I like the look of both bikes, they are different and I appreciate them aesthically in different ways.

I just dont like riding the 749 I cant get on with it. I dont gel with it. I used it the other day to get to work and it made me feel like a novice rider again.

Liz loves it though and thats the most important thing

Hmmm, (strokes chin..) That's a difficult one Fizz.

Now, on one hand you have the latest in a long line of exotic Italian two wheeled stallions, and on the other, you have another ******* piece of unreliable, noisy and over rated *rap from Bologna. It depends on your perspective.

IMHO, the 1098 looks OK, but not really sexy, and it looks better when in race trim (as in Superstock etc). The MV F4 still looks better, but I think the latest 'Blade is better still.

As for riding them, well the 749 was an experience. Never understood how a vee twin can be quite so rev happy yet still give that low down grunt that all V2's do. But it was uncomfortable, and I'm only 5'10"; even more so when it warmed up, my backside has never been so hot.

Maybe you've got used to the IL4 thing and prefer the package that the Jap manufacturers deliver. As much as I'd like to think I'd have another twin, I know I'd miss all the fun that sports in line fours provide.

So your not ill, you just have an opinion. You must be getting old ;)

Your more than welcome to take it for a spin V man. Be interested to hear your opinion.
Getting new rubber on it next week as well hopefully that'll make it feel a lot better.

Any way i love my bike, the way it looks and the way it rides.

Really?! :o Not ridden anything hard with that amount of power - sounds scary! My Zed will power wheelie in first if you are ham fisted but not in any of the other gears....

I bought my SV as substitute for a Montster, but now Im not too bothered, I love my SV.

Cant help feeling a little envious whenever I see one though - so I just remind myself of the costly servicing of the desmowotsits and the clinking of a dry clutch, I get over it again :D

Its not that scarey, now I'm used to the bike its controllable, its also fun, its part of the challenge to keep the front down and keep driving forward rather than lofting the wheel in the air and sh*tting my pants.

I took the bike out for the 1st time in about 4 weeks last night, completely miss timed everything and ended up with it revving at about 6k and kicking it into 2nd without a clutch :safe:

There was some serious air between the front wheel and the road I can tell you. Outside Harrods on the A4 was probably not the ideal location either :safe::safe:

Bloody fandangled motorbicycles.... Will have to get some serious time in before the 15th :D
