The throttle cable snapped on my van the other day and i manged to fix it with a electrical terminal block and a couple of washers. So this got me thinking of other things that i'd done like that such as plugging up a hole in the petrol tank of my 125 after an off with some chewing gum.

So any bodges like that as i think we've probably all done the cable tie/ gaffer tape reapirs at some point!

(Mods i've put this in IB as it's not strictly bike related)

I once rivetted a headlamp unit into my MR2 the night before I sold it. (Well, obviously my mate did, as you know I am mechanically inept). We'd taken it apart to change a bulb or something and forgot to put some important fixings back in - rivets were quicker

As seen before: Home Made Fenda Extenda, made outside a french supermarket in the Vosges from products purchased within.

It worked pretty well, and was then used on further outings (inc 1 week round the Alps).

THe output bearing on my on the gearbox of my old Chevette was wedged in with bits of coke can.

I did eventually make good and stick a new (reconditioned) gearbox in it.

Also the front part of the gear lever snapped on my plag (C50) when I was 16. I didn't have enough money to replace it so I hacksawed the pedal bit of the remaining back part, drilled a hole in it, stuck a bolt through it (wrapped in gaffer tape) and presto it now had a "proper" motorbike gearshift.

Many years ago I had a Rover 600 as a company car and a few weeks before it had to go back I caught the wing mirror on the wall at my house. Needless to it smashed to bits. Found out the price of a new one (£180!!!!!) so me and a friend fixed it back together with some bumper plastic repair. Electric tape and speaker wire were used for the inards. We then sanded it down and covered it in boot polish to hide the repair lines.

It did pass the inspection and saved me a pretty penny.

My favourite bodge though has to be on a old viva (1976 I think) I had as a first car. if you went above fifty miles an hour it would leak in engine fumes through the heating vents. So we taped hover hose to the vents and opened the windows at put them outide at speed!!

My SV is currently running with a nicely bodged on gear leaver from my CBR400.

Oh and go faster stripes on the seat (gaffer tape), soon to be sorted...

Its also ran with a bridged clutch switch for over a year. Also a shortened fuel hose when the other split (now corrected).

And how can I forget the zip ties holding my undertray on...

Just stuck an egg in the radiator of the car. I'll let you know if the buyer brings it back for overheating tomorrow night

My SV has:

1. Yellow mudguard (Rest is Candy Grand Blue)
2. White front wheel (Rear Silver)
3. Various broken/bodged panels
4. Purple clutch lever

All bodged together with chewing gum and sticky backed plastic!! :D

It will survive AR07!.................Possibly!

I once 'fixed' a missing link plate on a chain on a Bantam with a paperclip, only because the boy riding it didn't even realise it was missing, and I was a boy myself. No idea if he got home, but he was alive and well a few weeks later......

Exhaust fell off at the cylinder of my ancient AR125 - found a tea spoon amongst the debris at the side of the road, bent it into a hook to tie the pipework back onto the cylinder :) It was a tad noisy :)

Don't bodge bikes. I value my life.

Cars. I had a Marina where the rear leaf spring collapsed and used a pair of mole grips to hold it together for the 14 miles home avoiding every pot hole.

I had a capri where the accelerator cable snapped so used the choke cable to get home.

Scottoiler tube is (strongest strength) araldited to my swingarm (as well as cable tied to at the delivery end. I got fed up of it coming loose and didn't like the aesthetics of cable ties on it.

Backs of mirrors were sanded down, first with coarse sand paper, then with wet and dry, before being coated in "back to black" to restore some shape and sheen to them after an off.

I also did the "bolt through the rear brake" fix after snapping my rear brake. I actually had it on my bike for about 18 months without incident. 2 weeks after I changed it I chuck the bloody thing down the road and break the new one. Ironically, the bodged one was a great deal more robust and would probably have survived it.

once in wales me and a mate decided to head home in my e reg astra and when i turned the ignition smoke came from the ignition barrel so we stripped it on the side of the road and taped some long nose pliers into 2 of the ignition terminals to get home:)

My car currently has a starter button as some black box refuses to acknoledge the turning of the key. However I can't lay claim to putting it in.

Old car used to have to be opened on passenger side as drivers door lock was too worn. Only fixed them after wearing out the passenger side too as getting in through the boot didn't appeal.

The CG has now passed two MOTs through the judicious installation of paper towel under the dust caps just prior to the test. I have the new seals, just can't be bothered to fit them.

Hmm not really proper bodges at all. Still I've typed this now so I'm posting it.

ran my mates numberplate through ban saw temporarily to fit a tail tidy ended up staying on there a while

stupidly :smt021 put a windy wrench on the sump plug of my 125 to do it up shattered it then tacked it back together with silver solder lasted a week but was very drippy

when selling my scooter, seat clip broke because buyer began to yank it :toss: but i found some fiberglass stuff glassed it back on done a tad of shaping sprayed it black look top nuts

a bit to bodgy
