What a cliche. Anyway, new here, I pick up my SV on Saturday and thought i'd better say hi before hand. I've been riding a year, on the beast that is the Yamaha SRX400

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/106/280517648_19b740d56c.jpg?v=0

That's it in it's natural habitat.

I've gone for an early SV, a T reg, '99 model in the blue. Which is the exact bike which made me go for my licence. I had to have one, it's stunning.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/244/519563978_ae0fcd6e3c.jpg?v=0

s'pretty innit?

Anyhoo, it's restricted for the foreseable (at least a year or until I can work out how to take it out)

Anyone got any experiences of the mechanically restricted X model, also i'm going to be doing a fair bit of distance on it so i'm thinking of a double bubble screen, along with a new end can (otherwise, what's the point in the V-Twin?). Also, luggage options, what are they like. I know nothing and all help appreciated.

Croeso! :D

Nice bike. Double bubble is excellent idea, I rate the F. Fabri that was on my curvey.

Luggage is either a top box or soft luggage.

Have to agree that it is a good looking bike (only because it is a Curvey\\:D/ )
Shame about the colour. ;)
Don't think you will be disappointed.

Anyone able to let me know how the 33 bhp restriction will affect it?

Easy fella, some people may take offence if you refer to a pointy as that. \\:D/

Since you're in London check the Soho section meet in Frith street every Friday, or the South East London peeps at SELKent.

Oli

Not on here a year, I signed up today but I've obviously been licking pictures of SV's for a long time now, so most "SV" Google search lead here eventually.

Errrm, in answer to your question, you're all lovely and each and every one of you has a very special place in my heart.

Oli

I've been to the Soho meet before, through londonbikers.com who I'm also a member with.

Hi Oli:D

Right shape, wrong blue;)

But at least it's not yellow:p

Oli
06-06-07, 02:31 PM
I'm too large for a yellow bike, I need something subtler. The irony of my little SRX being Yellow Framed isn't lost on me. But it was cheap and I was bored of the bus.

Hello, but the engine is the wrong colour, the fairing isnt stealth enabled, in fact it could only be improved by being a pointy.

PS Hovis must be asleep, he'll be along to tell you to paint it yellow soon.

Enjoy it.

Hi welcome,

12k on the mileage, FSH. I bought it from BAT, who have a reputation for being a little on the pricey side, however since I put down my £50 deposit(!) they've replaced the tyres, clutch, all fluids, fitted a restrictor, air filters, full service, given me a 15 month warrantly and a 20% discount for life. So all in all it's a complete bargain.

Hello there from up North.

I agree that the Fabbri Double Bubbles are well suited to a curvy.

Oli

They're about £50 aren't they? I think i'll also get some R&G's just in case. I also seem to have got miracle insurance. £366 fully comp, central London, ungaraged with less than one year's experience on a bike.

It's through Motorcycle Direct (MD). I bought my current insurance through them last year. £190 TPFT on a £300 bike. Current insurer wouldn't touch the SV unless it was garaged and I got a Snow Leopard chained to a pole as security. So, MD said they'd hunt around, and managed to get Equity Red Star to invite early renewal, effectively giving me 1 year NCB a month early.

Baph
07-06-07, 09:11 AM
I got a Snow Leopard chained to a pole as security.

Where can you buy these? And do they make good pillions, as I'd want decent security for the bike whilst out & about too. How much do they cost to feed?

(and yes, posts regularly get taken out of context here!)

Oli
07-06-07, 09:14 AM
They make sh|t pillions, they've only got claws to hold on with, they're going in your back baby.

Out of context is the best way, too many rigidly dull forums out there, I tend not to belong to them.

Baph
07-06-07, 09:19 AM
Nail file will solve the problem of claws, but what do you feed it on? Stray cats? (*awaits flaming*)

Restricted 99 SV is still good fun - mines restricted, and I cant stop giggling. I'm not gonna be able to ride it for fits of laughter when the restrictors come out!

Welcome to the forums, at last!

Is it still viable for Motorways etc? How is it on a turn of speed for A road overtaking etc?

Flamin_Squirrel
07-06-07, 11:06 AM
33bhp SV is good for 100mph, so motorways are fine.

Oli
07-06-07, 11:19 AM
what's roll on like?

Alpinestarhero
07-06-07, 11:20 AM
Is it still viable for Motorways etc? How is it on a turn of speed for A road overtaking etc?

My bike sits at 80mph absolutly fine, and it'll go faster. Just be carefull when overtaking, leave yourself alot of room to get up some speed. Acceleration at these speeds isnt instant like a full power SV, so just use some common sense :)

Matt

Oli
07-06-07, 11:27 AM
I'm more interested in say 30 mph or 40mph roll on than the outright motorway blast, I'll spend a lot of time commuting or pootling around the South East.

Oli
07-06-07, 11:32 AM
also, how's the restricted 2 up long distance?
