I'm at the AR but would have definately done this if I wasn't, I just absolutely love it out there, in fact I'd probably move house out that way if it wasn't for the family.

Have a good one and watch out for the ever increasing police presence.

date would be around 23rd/24th.... we could do some camping... as there was a possible campsite we scouted out last year around Llangorse near the lake that would be good to use... could make it a friday sat sunday thing if need be for those who wanted.... makes life easier for those who need to travel any distance...

Yup, Llangorse looked like a posibility last year. Can you get some more details VB?

My bike is staying stationary until the 18th.. so will do some research / phoning around through this week....
I may have difficulty with the camping side of things, as I have been playing around with my bike to see what I can fit on it..... the tank bag goes on, but I dont see the panniers fitting that easily on my bike... which makes putting a tent on the bike rather difficult.... will have to sort out how to do this, as dont finish work till 5pm, and the absolute earliest I can get back home is about 6.15... so some people may have to navigate to a point I can rondevous with them nearish to the campsite... burger van by storey arms would do ;)

and on a side not, something else I planned from last year is progressing rather well... and dont require tents for that one....

right, Im in the mood for this.. a camping weekend it will be! lol

Bollix.. I got my weekends mixed up.... weekend of 30th June is the AR... and I want to go along to Ed's rideout to Aberystwyth on that weekend.... which he is also going along via Rhayader and the Elan valley....

so we can either do the camping, and meet up with Ed posssibly and do it that weekend... or go on an entirely different weekend.. i.e. 22,23,24th and do something simularish...

my route would go something along the lines of:
Start off at Llangorse... head along the A40 and take the road up to Talgarth (I know this is kinda back on ourselves a bit, but its a good road!) then head towards Builth on the A470... and go up towards Rhayader... head down the Elan valley making several stops for photos etc... rests, and fags for the smokers.. lol head back around and out of Elan valley, into Rhayader, back towards Builth, then take the road from Builth Wells towards Llandovery..... eat food, look at other peoples bikes, eat some more food... depending on time, we could detour on to the black mountains and stop at the top for photos.... then head back the way we came... or via a shortcut through some places I cant remember the name of, get back onto the A40... and head back towards Llangorse... and then set fire to some burgers... or drink in the pub... or both at the same time!

valleyboy
10-06-07, 11:39 AM
I think this is the plcae.. cant remember too many campsites around the lake...

http://www.lakeside-holidays.net/

looking at £5 - £6 ish per night per person, they have hot and cold water, showers etc....

after looking at google earth, this is the campsite in question.....

the place in question is very scenic, I think from memory there is a small pub on site as well, but its only a few minutes walk from the main village.... theres also a cafe near the campsite for those who dont want to cook their own food!

valleyboy
10-06-07, 11:46 AM
And, there are also caravans for rent....

Xan173
10-06-07, 05:58 PM
I always said you navigate by burger vans;)

Sounds like a larf, so why not.

Anyone fancy splitting the cost of a caravan? £10per head per night assuming there's availability?

valleyboy
10-06-07, 06:12 PM
yay! glad someone else was thinking caravan as well! easier than lumping a tent around!

you could ask PC Loz if she wanted to attend... lol

We could share a 6 berth between 4, that way no issue with sleeping arrangements. However, we have to get her there... How's that gonna work?

valleyboy
10-06-07, 09:06 PM
I can get to yours from work on a friday... I have no issues with taking small amounts of kit on the bike to work.. its if I had to carry a tent on it, I'd be having kittens while filtering! (already been banging both wing mirrors at same time going down traffic!) but that means getting to yours at about 6ish.... and thus, to Llangorse at about 7.30 ish....
would make my life considerably easier if I could drop off some kit at yours prior to the day.. i.e. kit for Loz to wear... you saw the size of my ruck sack the other day! or, theres the case of get her to follow you in car, and meet near my house.. then if required she can either follow us to Llangorse in car, or leave it at mine... or variations there of...

Beenz
10-06-07, 09:39 PM
If I don't do the AR I'll be up for a few days over Llangorse. I should be able to carry my tent though.

Xan173
11-06-07, 10:31 AM
I think it's best that if she wants to join us she'll have to drive. Thing is, although we've been to yours a couple of times I'd never find it on my own. First things first, find out if a caravan will be available.

valleyboy
11-06-07, 05:36 PM
Will send off an e-mail tonight....
I had a chance to read my terms and conditions in work the othe day.. dont think I should be using the net too much... lol

Xan173
12-06-07, 07:20 PM
Right, Lozza the Rozza can't make it.

We're still going ahead for Sat 30th. We can rent a caravan, a 3 bedroom 6 berth is £60. One double bed and 4 singles.

Names down so far:
Vix
Xan
VB

Anyone else?

Don't think you can turn up without a tent on the off chance of creeping in, if your name's not down you're not coming in.....

Lady luck has struck again. Had an accident in the car with another car yesterday that was probably my fault. No one hurt or injured but another driver will be making a claim on my insurance. Gotta pay the excess so need to save some money. :(

When it rains, it pours.

Caravans are still available, we need to confirm numbers before boking, and they want payment in full when its booked...

I get paid on the 27th, and ill be skint until then, but if someone else would like to book and pay, my name will be down... and can pay them on or after the 27th then...

I can ask my mate if he wants to go as well, but he isnt back from his holidays yet, so will ask him when hes back, and will also pester his dad about the school house then as well...

Xan173
16-06-07, 10:44 AM

went up to the elan valley with the kids in the cage last weekend to show them the dams and then i took them along the mountain road to devils bridge. its just not the same in a big citroen synergie as on a bike, but i had the kids all screaming there heads off shouting i was trying to kill them. :p we are going to arrange a ride out/camping weekend from the pub up to the valley soon so i can show the boys down here what they are misssing.

we camped at a site called cuckoos corner campsite in moreton on lugg which is about 4 miles north of hereford. 2 adults and 3 children for 2 nights with electric hookup to our tent was £23. well worth it.

Right, I've booked and paid for the caravan for 2 nights Fri 29th and Sat 30th June. We can collect the keys from the bar as we'll be arriving late-ish.

Pillows and Duvets are provided. You should bring a duvet cover, sheet and pillow cases, or a sleeping bag if preferred. Oh, and a towel.

Job done. Sorted.

Me and Vix will take the twin room ;)

The heavy rain is due to continue over the weekend so I have taken the liberty of contacting the site owner and he's kindly agreed that we can defer our visit to either Fri 6th July or Fri 13th July.

I said I'd let him know asap.

Looking at the long range forecast the weekend of the 6th still looks like it might be iffy but improving. I also think we have friends visiting that weekend so I suggest we defer to the 13th.

VB let me know. Anyone else who was thinking of tagging along take note.

Xan173
26-06-07, 02:54 PM
Bugger.

Turns out those dates are not available. Might have a Type A for the 20/12st July. Will post update when I have it.

Failing that we'll have to put off to September.

Xan173

Seems that's not an option either. VB you have PM.

Xan173

Right. This trip is postponed :nomore:

I have already personally forked out £100 which can be used to pay for camping at a later date.

This can go on the agenda of the next meeting.

OK in the interests of keeping things tidy. I'm going to unstick this thread. When you've sorted out a date and everything create a new thread with the date and details in and I'll stick that one instead.

Hope thats OK

I plan on doing a reccy of Llangorse and will list available activities that are done in the area.. as well as a rough route for a bike ride....

could always post it up once we get an agreed date in the rideout section itself... and see if people from other areas are interested ?

I guess that we won't have the caravan now until the end of September. So i guess that we just pick a date in August and see who wants to come along. We can do the normal camping thing and get Stretchie to be the red coat/Organiser as he will have had plenty of practice by then.

So I am going to pick a date now.

Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th August.

Job done.

Think it should go back on as a sticky again, unless you want to start a new thread.
