I did it once and I nearly lost control as it dug into the ground. It's not a good thing in my experience but each to there own I guess.

I also have a first to announce; I hit the ton today, on a downhill stretch of the A27 brighton bypass.

Indicated...but it was a speed also indicated on the old mans (rather more acurate, i suspect) speedo

Either way, it felt windy

Kind of like getting your kneedown but it vibrates through the frame. Can cause some cool sparks but after my little peg escapade I gave it up in favour if fluffy bunnies and riding sensibly.......honest.

Standard, but my dad orderd me a double bubble one (birthday present....still waiting for it!) so when i get that i'll test it. I sat on a pointy today, they seem much more protective against windblast judging by the larger fairing

What's it feel like?

First time was kinda scary because I wasn't expecting it, it makes quite a bit of noise and you do feel it. I have a bad habbits with regard to position of feet on pedals but having scraped my boots a chunk I now put my toes on the pegs for roundabouts and the like. It felt like I'd smacked the entire toe of my boot into the ground and I almost thought it hurt my foot (but it can't have really). The second time I was trying for it and I had less weight on the peg so it wasn't a problem at all.

I don't know about pegs digging in or whatnot but I can say the experiance is a lot better on teh SV with folding pegs than doing it on my CG which has fixed pegs. I did it once on that a bit too hard and it lifted the bike up - now that was scary.

I shall be aiming to scrape the pegs some more me thinks - only on nice big roundabouts though, not something I'd ever be capable of 'in the wild' so to speak.

Watch you don't dig in dude.

For me...prefer getting the toe down. I've got those sparky sliders on mine. well cool.

Well that bit on the end of the peg is there to tell you that's far enough. That's why they put it there just enough to ley you know.

Yeah and it's quite long too. I can't see me ever wearing it out, though I know some people do.

If you're riding a bike where the peg isn't folding up when you ground it, be careful. It's creating a fulcrum point to lift one of the wheels off the ground and as soon as that happens you're toast obviously. Also, weight going down through the peg is weight not pushing the tyres into the tarmac.

I dunno...sitting on it, it felt a bit more...budget...than my bike to sit on....the cockpit just seems a bit......more.....budgety.......

oh crap, what have i said?!

You don't need to tell me, really you don't. Put me right of trying to do it again.

I'm sure that, for the benefit of any officers of the law, you appreciate that the SV speedo can be up to 30mph out, especially when its indicating 100mph.

Isnt that right Matt? :P

And for those that were stating higher speeds, well that inaccuracy gets worse the closer to 70 you get, doesnt it boys (and girls) :)

MiniMatt
11-06-07, 03:53 PM
Actually, I was told by Mr Suzuki's best friend's sister's boyfriends brother's girlfriend that the SV is actually restricted to 70mph, they just let the speedo carry on racking up figures to give the riders something to look at :p

i love gettin the pegs down! its great, but yesterday i went to far, sniffle, so shes in the shop. as far as the speed goes, i got my k6 up 139 too, and she still had a little more in her. i came up on some traffic and had to take evasive action though. :)

Learn to hang off more, next thing to touch down will be your ****. Scraping pegs may seem big and clever, but you're dangerously close to falling off the edge of your tyres.

Then I'll be one of them "hang of hero's" poeple criticise. I don't seem to be able to win.

Seriously tho' it's not my normal style of riding. It is nice to know it's do-able and to have experianced the fact the bike is more capable than I.

I have had 2 peg hairy peg down moments - Both on track where the pegs dug in - Blue_sv650s had was following me with his cam and has footage of the first one - got that kicking about??

Second time was quicker and much worse - almost threw me off. After that I decided to get rearsets as I would much rather not having to worry about it than have them dig in again. After a lot of thought I decided I didn't want to spend anymore money on the SV, so traded it in for a new R6! Have done 5-6 trackdays on it now and the pegs haven't been down once! and they have these crazy 1inch long hero blobs on as well.

I was having a chat with my motorcycle instructor the other day. He always came peg-scraping round the outside of me on his CBF1000, and has just brought some titanium toe-sliders. His other bike? A pan euro  I dont think theres any danger in scraping pegs, specialy on the SV since they are quite low - you'll be scraping pegs before the limits of the tyres are reached I think. Anyway, its just a depth-gauge, just like draggin the old knee...

Warren....who's to say what i mean by doing the "ton" :king: Its a pretty ambiguous term, not using units etc etc :D

Has anyone noticed the hero-blobs on Honda's? Especially the SP1 and SP2's?

I'll save this quote for that time when you're nursing bruises and a scraped bike, all because your peg dug in and launched the back wheel off the ground - don't laugh, I've seen it happen right in front of me at Mallory Park hairpin. How the girl (my ex) stayed on board her Bandit 650 I will never know. She scraped the exhaust can in that incident, and bent the rear brake pedal double. Bandit pegs are lower than SV ones. Check this out:

After learning how to hang off (Check out the rear brake pedal)
189

How I do it on a battered 75,000 mile Bandit 600 (Pegs are a long way off scraping)

I see you're still in your first two years and on a 33bhp bike, just go easier and learn how to ride properly before attempting heroics. You've got years of pleasureable riding ahead of you in which to learn how to corner fast yet safe. Learn how to shift weight across and keep the bike more upright, it gives you more rubber on the road and allows you to corner faster yet safer.

Thats pretty much what happened to me, except i was coming off of a hairpin onramp. i probably could have saved it, but i went wide and hit gravel on the shoulder. thankfull noone hit my sv because it slid out into the middle of the freeway. not good, not good at all!
