Help - I went to get some air in my tyres this morning, usual weekly event, but this time I couldn't get the valve caps off. They are stuck solid and there was no way I could get them off.I'm guessing I don't really need the air as I rarely do, I just like to make sure weekly that I am ok.Does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks,Kev

Heat it up then do it. Hot water usually does the trick. Obviously get the dust cap to the top of the wheel, and work out a way to balance a container there so it'll soak for a while.

The thread is metallic IIRC, the dust caps are usually rubber. Even if you have metallic ones (like me), it'll expand differently under heat.

Worst comes to worst you could cut them off and fit new ones

Surprised the plastic ones have stuck. I'd use a pair of pliers. The caps have serations for grip usually. I have alloy ones and a 8mm spanner fits perfectly.

Always a good idea to check pressures very regularly. Could save you having an off.

Old trick, they're superglued on. Well those teachers deserved it dammit!

Mine are cheap replacement plastic ones and they are normally fine which does make me wonder about whether some super glue is in the mix although there are no drips visible.

Um... You're turning them the right way, right?

I had a brain malfunction while checking the tyre pressures on my new car... I'd gone round the first 3, got to the last and for some reason was turning the cap the wrong way.

Me: "Ooh, I can't undo this one..."

Mate: "Try turning it the other way."

:geek:

Good job I've got a reserved seat on the "speshul" bus.

On of mine on my cage is stuck, tried using pliers but then the whole stem rotates! And due to the shape of the alloys you can't grip the stem and cap at the same time.

Need new tyres in the next 500 miles so will get it sorted then.
