I an new to the SV650, having bought a 2006 naked model. It cam with Dunlop sportsmax d220 st tyres.
Anybody know anything about these?
Are there better tyres on the market, bearing in mind I need a good all rounder and not something that will wear out in 2K miles?
The Dunlop 220's will do you fine whilst you're getting used to the bike. General consensus is that they're far from the best tyre, but they're the stock tyre for a reason.
Tyre choice depends on what you want out of it. Grip vs distance is always a tradeoff. Personally, I always go for distance over grip. Then there's aspects to look at like how quickly they heat up, wet vs dry performace etc etc.
Check out the tyre section for more detail on the choice.

thanks for that.
I would definitely be interested in a bit more grip.
Excuse my ignorance, but this is the first time I have used the site and cannot see the tyre sction

I'm in the same boat, new to the SV scene. I've only done 2.5k miles so far on the stock tyres. I had Michelin Pilot Roads on my old CBR which I thought were great. I'm going to give them a go when it's time to change.

all-round tyres are recommended. all-square tyres less so

Sorry there guys, that's what happens when I frantically flick between windows whilst working.
