I had a go at shining up my downpipes the other day. I spent a good half hour with some considerable improvment, but then i couldnt be bothered and polished the fairing, tank etc.
I finally cleaned the chain, returning it to its former gold colour

Mine was that spotless before the midlands ride out which involved riding through deep muddy flood water at one point :(
Needs considerable work now :(

you'd think wouldnt you that the mess a plasterer gets into at work wouldnt be bother'd about a pin clean bike:) cars he's not so bother'd about but the sv and his garage have to be clean, he broke the dyson hoovering the garage floor.
Thats show standard that is top marks for the autosol abuse , i may get around to having a go one day. I do enjoy cleaning me bike!!!

This describes my Friday evening perfectly...
I had a go at shining up my downpipes the other day. I spent a good half hour with some considerable improvment, but then i couldnt be bothered and polished the
...rest of the exhaust in my case. Pulled the end can off (never done that before) and cleaned up brackets etc as well as the end can itself. Very satisfying.
I need instructions on how to use Autosol though. I can't seem to get my downpipe silver shiney, just 'not quite so rusty looking'.

Cuz's bike's cleanliness is just mind blowing. If cleanliness were next to godliness I think we'd have to describe the bike's colour as cardinal red.

Is it possible to get bolts shiny at all? They were first to go on my bike :(
kwak zzr
21-06-07, 04:25 PM
which bolts are you talking about? if its engine bolts i'd suggest changing them for better ones. on my old cbr which had quality bolts i used to take each one out and fix it into a drill, dip it in autosol and spin it round on a rag:)
this gave chrome like bolts:)

keep going it will come. in extreme circumstances i have used wet and dry dipped in autosol just to get the initial hard discoloration off.
Cheers for the encouragement Kwak. Oh and great tip on bolt polishing - wasn't me that asked but I think that's very clever.

LMAO! This is one funny post. I cant believe how unbelievably clean these bikes are - how many miles are on them???
To get it that clean is a hell of a lot of elbow grease. I did get the downpipe gleaming once, however it browns over in days. To get the staining off, either a lot of elbow grease or could cheat and use a dremel with a polishing tool on it.

I tried a dremel. I'm either using the wrong tool or wrong polishing stuff as I found it did virtually nothing. Pity as I was hoping it would be a nice shortcut to a shiny downpipe.
I now want to now how you get black stuff to look black. I'm guessing polish of some sort?

Sorry guys! New to biking so please excuse if this is a question that has been asked UP'teen times!
What the heck is AUTOSOL? and what form does it come in, Can/spray, Tube/paste etc....
ALSO, does anyone know of a firm that will send it to NZ???
Crashbungs too. I got some put on from the place I bought the bike and to be honest I'm sure they are in the wrong place. ANY INFO regarding where they should go on a CURVY S will be great ta, AND OR any info on which ones I SHOULD BUY to replace the BOB ones that the garge put on???
kwak zzr
28-06-07, 09:33 PM
autosol is a german(i think) polishing paste which comes in a tube(like tooth paste), very good for all metals, it costs about £2.50 - £5.00 depending on where you buy it from, most car shops, bike shops and halfords sell it, its also for sale on ebay.
rubbing downpipe now with autosol looking the dogs do das but arm about to colapse though !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very impressive autosol abuse! I was wondering if once you give something an ample amount of autosol how long it stays clean and does it stop the crud sticking to it? I've just got a brand new k6 sport and am hoping to keep it shiny! Cheers.

Steel wool dipped in Autosol. That makes swift work of getting brown stuff off downtubes. Works a treat on my Daytona's stainless downtubes
I now want to now how you get black stuff to look black. I'm guessing polish of some sort?
Pop into Hein Gericke and buy some of their own brand clear leather grease (it's beeswax for waterproofing and conditioning leathers). Use it on a 1 inch paintbrush on black plastics and then buff off with a dry cloth. Brings brake calipers and satin black painted parts up a treat too.
Trust me, my Daytona is almost totally black so I've discovered ways to keep it looking good.

Yes, but you'll need the second item down on this page if you want any bike to look like Mr Cuz's.
