1044 tomorrow (Tuesday) at Springburn. Little bit lacking in U-turn confidence but everything else is spot on so I'm certain Mrs Tiger will be fine.

Still, couldn't hurt to say...

Good luck Schmoopy! xxo

Alas.

Thanks for all your good wishes peeps but the Mrs was caught out by The Moneymaker, i.e. the notion that putting your foot down while conducting a U-turn in a narrow, cambered, gravel strewn, down hill side street somehow constitutes a serious fault.

Pretty philosophical about it I must say, which is very Mrs Tiger, so we're off out for the lunch (with beer) booked to celebrate/commiserate*

unlucky mrs T. i fell off 17 times the day before my test trying to do a u turn. failed first test - nothing to do with u turn. resat 10 days letter and passed. the best drivers/riders pass second time

Hard lines Jilly! It's not an easy thing to pass, in a car test your allowed 3 major faults.

If thats the only thing you would have failed on you'll do it next time plain sailing!

Just spend hours in an empty car park practicing those U turns. If you need to put your foot down half way round, its because your doing the U turn too slow, and relying on your own balance to stay upright.

So long as the rear wheel is driving forwards the bike will stay upright on its own. Slow down too much or let the power drop off and the bike falls over in the direction of lean and you need to put your foot down to save it.

Get rolling before you start the turn, mirror/indicate/shoulder checks, plenty of revs, plently of clutch slip to keep it driving forwards, don't be shy, fire it into the turn, lean in, keep the back wheel driving, and whip it round in one swift movement. You won't need to put your foot down and once you get good enough, you won't have time anyway! The first few times you'll just end up pointing at the opposite pavement but keep at it and practice getting it tighter and tighter.

Do fast figure of eights in the car park getting tighter and tighter and slower and slower (slow down with more clutch slip, not less throttle!). As you get better you'll increase confidence in slow speed tight turns and will help with the U turns too.

Drag Tiger along for moral support! I'll happily come along and ar$e about in your local car park for a few hours too if you need some company!

Good Luck ;) ;) ;)

I'd go along with that but Mrs Tiger reckons she needs a kerb to keep her focused. More practice couldn't hurt though but the annoying thing is her U turns are technically fine, it's a confidence thing. And of course it's not helped by doing it 3 minutes into the test while the collywobbles are still gripping.

is it still the hobbit doing the tests in Springburn?
She called him a few things yesterday, of which Hobbit would have been the most polite, but I don't think it was him. Old guy? BMW?

Anyway, it's onwards and testwards. Phoning Ride On this morning to book the next available test, back on the horse and all that. Thanks for all the support and wise words of advice peeps, keep you posted.

mark had a bmw after his cbr but that was a few years ago. he is mid 30s I think - old to some lol

I used an empty supermarket car park to practice u turns. I used the parking space lines and pretended they were kerbs starting with 3 spaces wide working my way down to 2 spaces wide. If you can do a u turn within 2 spaces you can do one anywhere.

I messed up lots, and hated that wee midget hobbit!!

felt like pushing his bmw over each time cause he wouldnt be able to pick it up,

good luck next time, and just remeber there are always hitmen available to kill him!

It was him! Which just goes to show how much I know.

Couldn't bring herself to book another test yesterday, just needed a day off I think, but back in business today hopefully.

Ralph, thanks for the kind offer to babysit the U turn practice but Mrs T is going out with our neighbour who reckons he did 2000 of 'em in the build up to his test. Mind you, he not only failed the U turn but fell off into the bargain! Aced it second time though...

Tiger...give her your SV to practice in a car park. If she can u-turn the sv then she can u-turn anything.

Oh so true!! I still can't u-turn the SV but not my problem now:wink:
I still practise down in the industrial estates in Cumbernauld roads are fairly quiet and you can really screw up all the driving instructors nights.
I got told once to move on by and instructor as he thought his 'learner' should have priority over someone who had passed. He got told where to go and ask how much training he did in observation as the learner obviously did not see me and pulled up at the last minute. No further comment from said instructor and they cleared off!:smt019

But anyway Good luck with your resit Mrs T. You'll fly through it
(not all the best passed 2nd time:mad: ) but I did take mine on a 125 which is slightly easier to turn (then had to wait 2 years to get a great unrestricted bike)

Luck is not a factor!

Today, in the rain, at Springburn the very beautiful and very, very determined Mrs Tiger ****ed all over her U turn, shortly followed by the rest of the test and is now the proud possessor of form DSA 10, Practical Driving Test Pass Certificate!

There'll be no stopping her now...

Thanks to all for the congrats messages.

Hope to join you all on a rideout after my broken toes have healed! (Had one broken for the test, tripped up back steps, not very bothersome, then after champagne celebration for test victory and daughter's 7th birthday fell down stairs and took out another two as well as bursting 4th toe to flapping point!)

Hey ho, all's well, I'll get back in the saddle as soon as I can get my boot on!

BTW U turns are pointless and a waste of our time and money, how many of you out there do them regularly or at all? Personally after clocking up a meagre 50 miles just of U turns (in 3 days, yes seriously!) I'll never, ever do another!

Well done Mrs.T! :)

Yep, U-turns aren't that useful. Although I do one every morning at work.

No, no... I don't have a change of heart about work, just need to turn round to bump it onto the walkway for off-road (fork-lift proof) parking.

Cheers

Congratulations!

tbh - ive done more u-turns this year - probably more confidence now - 3 years in, since passing. - i see it as a neat 'trick' and show one of the 'ultimates' in bike control in a tight space.
