It is a horrible feeling coming round the corner to see Hovis on one side of the road and his bike the other - with a Merc seperating them. Did not see the actual accident, but was mighty pleased to see the yellow peril rise to his feet again.

Glad all is well with the bike matey.

basicly..............

there was a bridge with no signs on it, & only enough room for single file traffic, so two bikes are already on the bridge, when the merc trys to cross, i was the 3rd bike, & had nowhere to go when the merc hit me.

Sorry to hear about this Hovis, welcome to the crashing club. You may want to inform your insurance though if the merc driver has informed his. If not the damage seems quite minor (I knew it was a blue one really ;) ) and you both could sort it out 'quietly'.

Take it easy buddy.

Oh and yes of course your bike is blue, they are all blue, they're out there to get you don't you hear the voices? You think you are free, you think you have a yellow bike but they've messed with your head, there ain't no yellow bikes, they are BLUE BLUE BLUE well, except for the red ones, they are red, really red and faster, but definitely red, your's though, is BLUE

Sue the council
It could be arguably safer to have both parties cautious rather than one party steaming in with the ROW and the other party didn't see the sign

If it's a fact that there's no "road narrows on both sides sign" (and "SLOW" on the road and "humpback bridge sign") I would say that would more put the council liable.

I dont see how suing anybody is going to help all its going to do and drag it out.

Until this is sorted out I dont think its wise to speculate as to who's fault it is, especially on the open forum.

I was directly in front of Hovis, and Liz was in front of me, I've given Hovis my version of the events and offered to be a witness.

To be honest I'm not 100% sure who was or is at fault with this and I was there !!

I was messing about TBH but surely the council may be slightly liable as there is no signs up?

I think if the council has nothing to do with it and if the car driver is a reasonable person, then you should both do your vehicles yourself to save arguments maybe. Just my opinion on it all.

Was the car tearing over?

Ah, bummer... Glad you're OK though. Could this be the start of new, exciting mods? Ideally involving the colour green?

Single lane bridges usually don't have right of way, in the same way as single lane roads don't, it's up to road users to not be cretins. This has an obvious flaw, unfortunately.

dunno? if it gets written off & i can buy it back i guess i would be happy & £1000 up?

Baph
05-07-07, 03:04 PM
The only reason I can see for it being written off is if you're claiming for the repairs on insurance (granted with the Merc involved). Non of the damage to the bike is that critical (TSM made it to the AR with a damaged frame & no sidestand!!).

If that's the case, it would simply be because it's uneconomic to repair. Do you have an estimate for repairs, and what value did the insurance company hold it at?

hovis
05-07-07, 03:16 PM
they are getting back to me, i estimated the parts at £800ish then there is labour

they will replace all the fairings with new, just because there is a scratch/chip about the size of a 5p
the right bung has the slightest of scuffs, which will be replaced

its an eight year old bike its meant to have scuffs, the only thing i would replace is the screen, but i have repaired thet with tape:smt077

Luckypants
05-07-07, 03:27 PM
It's that labour that kills, plus using new parts. If there is nothing structural, try to buy it back and fix it yourself. There was structural damage to mine, else I would have done the same.

sorry to here about the crash, and the slow time it is takin to sort out.

I had a similar case with a works van took 4 months two sort out.

It was with my old bandit driver turned into me and off i went, on the phone 4 hours later with the insurance and did all the bumf. Phoning every 3 to 4 days then gave up after 3 and a half months. Then out of the blue and nic e big check through the door 2 weeks later. Never been with that insurance company again!!!!!:):)

I all takes time. BUT why i only takes 2 minutes to write out a check

Stu
11-09-07, 05:44 PM
Yup I would def reckon they think they were at fault (quite possibly are) or there was an 'issue' with that particular driver being behind the wheel.

if you can get this to go away with no claim on your record I think that would be a fairly good result. (considering the expensive damage to car/lack of damage to the banana)

Thats not quite how it works, is it Hovis!

As Stu said above, the best result is if it is dropped and your no claims is intact.

I don't see how they would go about repairing your bike anyway, as you sold it. :p
