Hi folks
Well, I traded in my raptor 1000 for a Z1000 yesterday so no more V-twins for me :smt026 It was a choice between a Z750 or a Z1000 and I found out that the insurance was the same so I went with the Z1000. It's got plenty of power, sounds good, handles sweetly and looks stunning. All that I could want in a bike. I don't regret trading in at all. It was a strange day because in the space of 1 hour I rode 3 different bikes - the hornet, the raptor and then the zed
All I have to do to it is get the seat lowered a touch because it is a tall bike and I am not tall :p

Happy days

are you suggesting that some zeds aren't tasteful? :smt019

Great bikes, oodles of torque, wheelies everywhere and a stunning looking. Lacking a little finesse in the twisties but nothing that a heavy hand can't manage. Doesn't look to bad in silver. If you're a proper hooligan get aftermarket cans to scare old ladies and squirrels! They'll hear you coming miles away! :D Enjoy!

You're absolutely right Pedrosa :p
I could feel it wanting to wheely yesterday but I calmed it down a bit :smt103 . Sorry officer, the bike wanted to wheely not me!! I like the sound and look of the standard cans so I won't get loud ones (just yet...)
Cheers!
Amanda
The cans look ace - congrats on the new ride.

I know you were thinking abot changing the raptor and wanted a jap. Good choice that! I like it! Even so I think Hornet would be the one for me. But I have to say that don't I!
Well done. It looks great!

Enjoy it ;)

Having owned both bikes I still prefer my Hornet 600. Not that there was anything wrong with the Zed but the Hornet is much more agile and you spank the engine all the time. With the Zed you have to be fairly respectful or trouble will ensue. Still, the Zed is up there as one of the best looking bikes ever made for me.

Definately. They're stunning and I really liked them when I first saw them but didn't want to spend so much money! The hornet is really my brother's so when he passes his test it will go back to him so I needed something that would do everything. The raptor was an ace toy, but that was just it, a toy - commuting wasn't much fun on it and I couldn't do any distance because I was putting petrol in the thing every 100 miles which gets a bit boring after a while;) Hopefully the zed will make me happy for a very long time! First impressions are very good though

To be honest, the Zed didn't fair much better on the fuel. The light would usually come on at about 100 miles, sometimes less if I were riding a wee bit hard. That said it's the kind of bike that you don't HAVE to ride hard as it's got so much torque, overtakes are almost effortless. Goes from 0-warp speed in the speed of thought. Actually, the more I think about it the more I miss the Zed. So glad you didn't get the new version though, ghastly aboration that it is. Strangely enough the new Z750 is gorgeous though.

The BEST colour. :D
Nice bike Amanda, good choice...
Just one tip - my mate at work has a ZX10 in that same matt titanium colour - invest in some of that clear protective film for the knee-cutouts in the tank, or your leathers WILL make the paint shiny and thin before the first service. His paint's practically worn right through in 2000 miles.
Welcome to the Zed club! :D
One of the best colours too.... good choice! 8)

I like those. Funny, I'm parked beside a new one today, and it's pretty orrible, but the last version was ace.
Excellent choice there Amanda. Though with first sarah, and now you, it seems I've got a girls bike. :(;)
About the fuel . I generally fill up at 90 -100 miles, as that's what's convenient for my commute. Still about halfway down the gauge at this point. I think that you get down to single bar about at about 120 miles, single bar flashing shortly after.
Northy, you're right about the new one I tried my best to like it out of loyalty, but to no avail. It's fat and unproportioned, and covered in lots of pointless little design 'features' . It's just a mess. Real shame. All they had to do was fix the mirrors and make the suspension a wee bit classier. Not much to ask was it?

just looked it up and apparently it's about 198kg (dry weight), doesn't feel heavy at all though.

I was off work on friday, hoping to get out on the bike but the torrential downpours put me off slightly :( I've sent the seat off to get it lowered a bit and bought some of those Daytona boots I hear so much about so the height won't bother me anymore
Dave and Dan - my hornet is PINK!!!! Well, sort of marroon but I say it's pink :smt080 How embarrassing!
It looks great Amanda - enjoy

Enjoy your new bike. It took many months of deliberation for me to decide between a Zed1000 and an SV 1000.
I finally plumped for the SV but still think the Zed 1000 was a good bike.
The local dealer was mint and kept letting me ride them both. Eventually bought the SV 1000 from another dealer
