HAHA, what a hoot...
dropped the SV off for it's first service this morning, as a bike to get me home i was lent a brand new DRZ400SM:

complete with scorpion exhaust. makes the terrible island roads feel like billiard tables with the suspension and the exhaust on the overun pops and crackles beautifully. after getting used to the fact that i need to get on tip toes to touch the floor (flat footed and bent kneed on the SV) and the steering was a bit more lively than i was used to, and that you were looking down on the white vans, oh, and the bars are about 6 inches away and a mile wide, it was great fun. the only downside was the engine when accelerating, or not as the case may be - it was kind of like my turbo diesel car, masses of grunt but all over after a couple of thousand revs and anything over 50mph felt like a hurricane. plus it really did sound like a lawnmower with the throttle open. i tried to spend as little time accelerating and as much time as possible on the overun
it could never replace the SV for me, even with the exhaust, but as a weekend toy, oh yes:cool:

Buy a seperate set of wheels and you can enjoy off road biking also. Adding even more fun.;)

I quite fancy one of those to commute on and for some B road twisty fun. Id get rid of my SV and I think something like that would make a nice companion for the GSXR.
Unforunately my bank balance says no :(

I still like the look of these, but I'm worried that only 400cc's wouldn't be 'enough' for me

at a spritely 11st it felt slow for me, and i've only been riding 4 weeks - i do know a guy with one of these:
http://www.ktmtwins.com/950superenduro.html
and can confirm that it has plenty of go:D
they also do a moto version:

Don't talk to me about KTM's :smt019
Had a KTM950 Supermoto - It didn't go well & ended up suing the garage for Compo... Never again :!:

eek - fair enough:smt103
i have a 2006 drz400 sm and a 2005 R6, the drz is such a great bike to ride soooo much fun it is lacking a bit on power but nothing a bit of tuning wont sort out ;)
I have been thinking about getting a moto for a while now as my commute is only 13 miles and generally through traffic. The idea of trying a different riding style also appeals. These bikes are lighter than the SV too which would be nice.........Not sure if I could sacrifice the speed of the SV though even though I don't actually use it often.I was going to test drive a Honda FMV 650, but the Suzuki one looks much better. Also how much weather protection do I actually get from the SV, as this is another consideration.

Was torn between the DRZ and the SV as a second bike, short city commutes etc.
SV got it, as like Cloggsy says 30odd bhp and about the same in torque was never going to do it plus I had the missus to consider seat height wise. Its still got a speedo drive off the front wheel so shorter gearing would maybe give it more poke?
Gorgeous looking bike tho'. Out of all the jap "supermoto-lites" its defo the one I would go for. I love the sound of piped singles.
Anyway if i had gone down the razor seat route I would not have "met" you bams:thumbsup: :smt080

I've had one of these for a year, though it just gathers dust in the garage now. I dont find it lacking in anything really, so long as I keep off the motorway. Aparrantly there is a great deal of tricking up you can do.

I really like the KTM, but everytime I mention it people suck their teeth and say "Ask Cloggsy."
Now I'm not saying that what happened to you was right, coz it wasn't, but one bad experience does not a s***e bike make...
After all the wanting to try one - I finally sat on 2 yesterday.
.....and I think that the only other bike that I can realistically ride would be the GSXR600 as neither of the supermoto's fitted me.
The DRZ400 was far too high although when I sat on it came down a bit, but I still could barely reach the floor on tip-toes.
Then I tried a Yamaha XT660x after I finally got my leg over (oh er) my legs just dangled and it wasn't the most comfy of seat either - far too wide.
So I'm going to forget the supermoto thing now.

With deserved sympathy due, I do not feel that Cloggsy's unfortunate experience should be the reason to discount KTM if that is what you fancy. Anyone can have a problematic experience no matter what the make of bike.
KTM are massive sellers around the world and their reputation grows by the day for producing excellent machines. They have massive expansion plans and this can only be good to see another european bike factory making an impact.

it does feel very high when you first sit on it, but it honestly isn't an issue when riding for me, coming to traffic lights or similar meant i had to think about putting ym foot down, but after 10 minutes it was ok - did you take it for a test drive, if not you may want to just give it a go:smt112

Clive, 400cc is better than no CC's at all :smt019
And yes they do look like fun. For me, it's whether my legs would stretch, not the bank balance :D
I'm going to start a new action group... "SSA" "Supermoto's for Short 4rses" :smt081

I've got a drz sm and at 5 foot 5, the bike height has never been an issue.
Having said that I no longer ride it, it sits in the corner quietly slurping from its optimate. If anyone gets round to wanting one, give me a call.

I may be 5ft 10, but I have the legs of a pygmy......
Seriously, I don't feel comfortable on any bike with a seat height greater than 820mm, so seeing as all the SM's are 870 plus, I have no chance.

When did they start making these? How much are you selling it for? Fraid I'm not interested in buying right now but it's something I would like to look at later this year for commuting. Just wondering what I can get, and for what money!

think they started around 2004?
Mines a feb 06 in yellow, about 1200 miles, would need to check.
Shop serviced feb 2007 - (£30 to change oil, £100 to stamp book, or am I being cynical?).
I'm not trying to sell it particually, (if I did I'd use the money to get something like a small CRF230 and explore the quantock hills), but if I were to have to put a price on it I'd look at the competition and undercut it, thats my usual method.

I had one of these
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/11/13587736_090a28e005.jpg
gorgeous & anoying
Down side is i owned it when CCM went bust and parts were limited added to the fact that it cost me £10 in fuel every ride and then £30 in a part of some description cause something WOULD fall off.... "yea"
tried getting aonother one recently but they have gone UP in price since i sold it 2 years ago.....
With all this water around I want one too :( - but as Ped says prob with the offroad tyres - I need a bike fix... and this looks like just the ticket at the moment.
