Had a good old search around and can't get an answer to this.. My question is -
I'm gonna buy an exhaust from the US and it's costing £288 all in delivered to my door. If I get stung for import duty ( apparantly some items do, some don't) then how much am I looking at paying? Anybody know?

I bought a speedo pick up for my front end conversion from the US and I paid £7 tax the part cost £40.
Ask them to mark it as a gift!

Cheers, will ask if they can label it.. If I get stung for duty it'll cost about the same as buying it here.. Hmmm.. decisions!

It might not get caught, sometimes you can be lucky and it just comes to the door. Normally though, I get hit for 17.5% VAT, 3.5% Import duty then a 'handling fee' by the carrier of about £8 which is ****ing ransom and robbery cos they have your parcel. You're paying for delivery twice! Note the VAT will be applied to the item and the postage charge!

Expect to pay £350.
Also the label as gift thing is fraud and they dont take kindly to that, remember they have the power to get your bank and credit card statements and the senders details will be on the parcel and easy to match up to any transaction.
Also there is a limit of about £30 for tax relief on gifts, and if htey open it for inspection, and see its a nice shiney new exhaust then they will do a valuation.
Basically people, if its something you can get in this country, get it in this country.
Everyone seems to think its a lot of hassle and hard work to actually recieve anything, I know, I went through it - look for my posts.
Sorry if I stepped on your toes Lyn, but was thinking of your fingers. :)
Mind you bowadays you probably have all this on ctrl-c, ctrl-v :P

For the same part, I got charged £6.50 in tax, plus £8 'handling charge'. So 35% extra ontop of the cost of the item. Seems to me like they make it up as they go along. Gotta love the way they can just extort money out of people like that.
The way they inform you makes me laugh too. Note through the letterbox demanding payment, it's like a ransom demand, "Give us the money or you'll never see your parcel again, mwahaha".
nick_numbers, I wouldn't bother if I were you.
