Anyway, thought i'd get to know you guys coz im almost certain i'll need your help at some point in the near future. Im 16 and at the moment i ride a 50cc chinese moped (not out of choice, its just all i can ride at the moment). Well my uncle (Rictus) gave me his SV to fix up, so that wen im 17 i can ride that. Hopefully with the help of my dad, uncle and you guys, it should be done over the summer.

Althought i am only 16, please don't take that as an opportunity to sterotype me as a reckless chav on a moped, like i've said before, the moped is the closest thing to a motorbike i can get at the moment, and im no chav. I have more fun laughing at them than being one.

So yeh, to sum it all up.

Hiya guys

Welcome to the group, as said before, if you listen to your uncle (and I do) you wont go far wrong.

Just try and keep all your toes, and tho his knee brace is kind of cool, probably best avoided too :)

Hit the quote button on the reply you want to erm, quote, or alternatively hit the "+ button to collect a few quotes along a thread and then hit quote on the last one. Hope this has made some sense!

And welcome, btw!

LOL - nah you just dont sit monkeying out HTML all day like us old folks :)

We just come from a prehistoric age where if you wanted to tell the world about your days you sat down with Notepad, wrote lots of funny code involving too many < and > symbols and then used something called FTP to put the files on a webserver somewhere.

Nowadays thats called Myspace or Facebook :P

Being stupid is not listening to good advice - and that doesnt seem to be the case :)

Hi and welcome. Good choice on the moped, they're all worth less than sod all after a year, so may as well spend as little as possible to start with.

You'll love the SV when you hit 17 and pass your test.

Whats frith street?? is it like a bike meet??

i have actually been to a meet at soho once, but that was only becasue mark had broken down and me and my dad had to go pick him up, so i didnt talk to anyone.

And i wouldn't dare say anything embarassing about mark, one because if he has done something embarassing i don't know about it. And 2 im not allowed to be nasty to him as technically the SV is his so i need to be nice :)

I think that from the collection of bits and bobs he has, he could probably put another 2 or 3 together :)

Welcome! We were all young once and learning on scooters, so no need to be embarassed. As someone said, the only dumb thing here is to ignore sage advice! Work hard to know your SV mechanically, and when you turn 17 you will be the absolute envy of your school mates. I wish I had been that cool at school lol.

Surely the equivalent of a FS1E, Moped, etc, is now the Scooter? (or Ped I have heard them referred to by my kids) I dont think it matters nowadays we are all on two wheel - 'spect to anyone on any sort of motorised 2 wheeler

The FS1E was the equivalent of today's Aprilia RS50, a full-on sports moped that looked like a shrunken version of a proper bike of the time. Scooters then, as they are now, were complete rubbish.

I'm sorry, but every single scooter rider under the age of 25 that I see round here and on my travels in London has the riding skill of a pregnant hippo on LSD. When they come into the bike shop I work at they mostly appear to have the communication and bike maintenance skills of Neanderthal man. If this means I'll tar all scooter riders with the same brush, then so be it.

At least the young lady who started this thread is on the right track by preparing an SV for when she turns 17 - well done to her.
