Hello everybody! Well after my previous trials and tribulations things are finally looking up :D Struggled to get out of bed this morning because I was feeling so p'd off about everything and really wasn't looking forward to today's training BUT...

I didn't drop the bike today!

I had my first go on the big bike...I didn't drop that one either!

Yay! I don't HAVE to drop bikes after all

Everything seemed to go really well, my instructor let me try out an older model CG125 and I could actually get my feet flat down, only problem was the kick start which I just couldn't get the hang of. I ended up back on my regular bike but I'm feeling a lot more confident so I got on loads better even tho I can only just get the balls of my feet down.

The big bike was actually a little bit lower than the 125 and felt more stable which was a bonus...the position of the foot pegs seemed a lot further back than on the CG so it was a bit weird changing gear for the first time...I'm having a little bit of trouble changing up a gear sometimes and I have to try a couple of times but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it...the only real worry I've got is doing a wobbly u-turn and dropping the bike but practise makes perfect so hopefully I'll get there!

After my little cornering incident I'm a bit wary of the bends on the narrower roads we're riding on but I guess that's a confidence thing and I suppose it's to be expected after my off...will get over it in time!

The back roads were terrible today, covered in gravel and silt and bits of trees...I can't believe the weather we've been having lately...need some more sunshine!!

All in all I've had a good day!!

That's great news :D

I was happier riding an er5 compared with a cg125 when i did DAS, I found it more stable too (though I did drop it a couple of times:rolleyes:) and the extra power gave me more confidence too.

You'll get there.

Practice (lots of it) makes as perfect as you can get. If that makes sense.:-D

The big bike was actually a little slower than the 125? Which big bike was it? :)

Sounds like you had a good day, with at least one "now I've got it" moment. Keep your chin up and head turned to the right on the U-turn. It becomes nearly automatic then and kills the wobbles.

Thanks for the tip...it's weird how looking where you want to go rather than where you are actually going seems to work to get you out of trouble on a bike! (ps...I actually said the big bike was lower lmao) :D

Good to hear you have turned it around....shame you are not training on concurrent days as you are on a roll :)

Glad to hear it. I too was atrocious on 125s (probably the worst in the group), but once I got on the 500s I was amazed how much better I was (as was the instructor). Hope the rest of it goes as well!

Yeah nipping up from 125 to 500+ is a different world. Glad to hear your getting on ok, good luck for the test! You can do it.

Dont let the U turn freak you out. Just keep the revs up, slip the clutch use the back brake to bring you round and LOOK DOWN THE ROAD BEHIND YOU. Dont look down, and dont look at the kerb. Positive Mental Attitude.

Haha that's the best misread ever :)

I once thought somebody on a Casualty must have been Irish because I thought the 'name' above her bed said NIL O'RALLY...would have been better if they'd just written NIL BY MOUTH...I'm simple me!! lol :D

Some people are just naturals on bikes.
They have an internal sense of balance for both themselves and the machine, a kind of freaky bond that makes them comfortable on any bike and able to reach the limits of their ability quickly on any given machine.

Don't you just hate them. ;)

But, someone who has the determination to achieve even a basic level of skill with a motorbike, who makes mistakes, drops the bike, finds them strange to handle or even sometimes simply doesn't seem to just 'get on' with a particular machine...

... yet still keeps on trying until they have that good day, until they can do that U-turn, until they can wave that little pass certificate in the face of the world and grin like a complete loon...

... you got my utmost respect LouLou.

I'm behind the times, what was your cornering incident?
I came off my trainers bike on a bend two days before my test (I did three day intensive training). He made me get back on and keep going.

And I passed, and after then he admitted that he didn't know how I walked away from the accident, which shook me up a bit.

So, if I can do it, you can too (though 8 years on I'm still wary of right handers!).

Good Luck for Friday, I'll keep my fingers crossed all day.

Thank you! Realised the 5th is Thursday tho...OMG my test is 1 day closer than I thought!!

My cornering incident was on a fairly tight left hand bend, the road was wet and I guess I was going too fast even though I'd seen the chevron signs and slowed down. The back end of the bike just went out from under me but somehow I managed to stay on top of it and stop in the middle of the road which was a relief as there was a car coming the other way. Luckily for me there was a junction on the bend and there was a hatched turning area in the middle of the road so the road was about 3 lanes wide where I stopped!

I had another days training on Fri which didn't go to well, dropped the big bike twice so now I'm doing my test on the 125 and will have to get the SV restricted. Thing is I'm now terrified I'm going to drop my SV when I finally get out on it as it seems so big and heavy and I'm a bit of a weed :D

Stop worrying about dropping it :)

Besides, once you pass your test on Thursday you'll be able to ride and learn how to ride the SV at your leisure. I found my SV to be much lighter than the 500 felt, oh and you can always put a foot (or two ) down at low speed when you're not trying to pass a test :)

strangely i found me sv easier to ride than my 125 more stable plus your not constantly going through the gearbox
