... that might appreciate this:
Finally found the perfect exhaust (imo) for the GSX-R! Imagine the below, but in a carbon fibre (not titanium) sleeve....all black exhaust :D
Ordered today, due to be delivered from Akrapovic to the company I've ordered from on the 24th July....so long to wait!!
These exhausts have been on the coming soon page at www.akrapovic-exhaust.com (http://www.akrapovic-exhaust.com) for soooo long....I can't wait to get my hands on one!

Looks good, like it's supposed to be there. IMHO Akra never do a bad looking can. I'd get one for my RR but they don't the hex end cap for the '04.

Yeah it's really been all about the looks for me, I have searched high and low for a can that really makes me want to buy it! Do they do a hex can for a later RR you could retrofit (or are they a lot different)? They've definitely got one for the ZX636 but that might be a bit too much effort to fit on!
That exhaust looks sweet! Might have to get one! Muffles, any idea on cost? Is it just a slip-on or full system you're going for?
I really like the sound and looks of the stock system and lots of people have said how loud / nice it is - but that Akrapovic does look good!
Cheers,
Matt

The standard system is loud-ish but I fancy a deeper growl and you know when you hear IL4's screaming? I just want that sound :D yep I'm a tart! lol...
I'm getting a road-legal slip-on, it's £328 + £10 postage, but these exhaust seem rare on the ground. I ordered from www.performanceparts-ltd.com (http://www.performanceparts-ltd.com), but as mentioned they won't get it until 24th July...
If you fancy seeing a few of the exhausts try this link http://www.gixerjunkies.net/forum/showthread.php?t=16579 there aren't many they haven't got but none of the others really stood out to me!

Not being a gixxer owner I think this fad of tiny stubby things look horrid. Give me a proper exhaust any day of the week. Underseat exhausts are the future I tell ya!

I quite like the look myself, probably because all too often I see "normal" (not underseat) exhausts looking too long and unwieldy.
Actually it's funny your comment on the underseat ones, cos I've heard a few people moaning about them (not on here) and how a proper exhaust is one at the side of the bike, lol!

I guess it's horses for courses and all that. I love the look of the underseat exhaust, standard ones of course look pretty cool but I agree that OEM one's are usually way too long and look like they could take out an M1 Abrams!
My Hornet has a kind of underseat but to the side affair, best of both worlds (of course in my humble opinion)! :D

A proper exhaust is a big one ;) that sits at the side of the bike. :smt045
Must admit that the Akro 'stubby' looks the best of the bunch.

My friend's got a 600 hornet too, it does look good :D (though he has twin high-level Devil cans - both on same side - but I've seen the original)
I do like underseat cans too, but ones at the side I think I'm too new a biker and hence have been tainted and don't appreciate the history of the normal location, as it were ! Though some can look nice - e.g. I like the slightly-stubby look of the can on the K5/K6 GSX-R 1000 :D

For me undeerseat exhausts are nothing but a fashion thing and often very uncomfortable for passenger or rider due to heat.
I do not like single sided exhausts at all. Yeah I know I am odd. A twin set up like that on the latest Aprilia Mille's is really sweet.
But that Akro stubby is a very nice piece of kit indeed. Sometimes you just cannot get equivalent to top kit by rummaging around in bargain basement.
Worth every penny in my mind as Akro are always so well made as well.

You're definitely right about them being made well - one of the things I noticed was that a lot of other exhausts struggle to look like they fit there, you can see a lot of the pipework/etc and it looks kind of uncovered. Akrapovic have done a really nice job of making it fit where the original was (as mentioned earlier). I'll post a few pics when I've got it anyway - I haven't seen a single pic of the carbon fibre version anywhere on the net yet!
I notice on the picture on the website that they have removed the big black box (which I presume is the catalytic convertor?) and replaced it with a pipe therefore I assume that they show a 'full system' on that pic on the website.
It does look really nice in the pic and I (again!) assume that the slip on will retain the cat? Will it fit so well and look so good? I'm not trying to say it will look cr@p cos I still think it will look good but would it be worth saving up and shelling out for a full system rather than going for a slip-on that may not fit so well?
Cheers,
Matt
As far as I am aware, the slip on systems remove the cat. When I bolted my Laser one one, the whole cat come off. The attachment point for slip ons is actually under the engine.
To be honest, I don't think you could fit that Akro can on with the original cat in place.

Matt - rigor's right, if you see what you actually get you can't fit it with the cat still there. I don't think they'd want you cutting the cat either.
I've been keeping it from all of you :p but there are a few more bits of info available from the Akrapovic web site - try http://www.akrapovic-exhaust.com/main/productnews/product-news.htm or more specifically http://www.akrapovic-exhaust.com/main/catalog/PDF/SU_GSX600-2007_SO.pdf - if you look at the pictures you'll see that it does indeed remove the cat :)
Unfortunately I can't see the pictures on the website? Although it may be the work computer not letting me!
However, so long as the slip on system does remove the cat and therefore it looks like it does in the picture then that's cool - looks really good.
I'd be v tempted to get one of those - removing the cat should free up a few ponies as well shouldn't it? Hopefully without the need for a remap!
Let us know how it goes muffles - are you going to fit it yourself?
Cheers,
Matt
PS - Muffles, I don't know if you're thinking of fitting a screen but I had a black DB zero gravity screen fitted to my bike when it had its first service last week and it's brilliant. Looks cool, great fit and deflects a lot more breeze. I can highly recommend one.

Which link did you try? The first is a link to their new products page - there's a few links on that page to various new things, one (actually more than one) which links to the exhaust.
The second link is a PDF - but depends which Adobe Acrobat you have installed (didn't work for me on 5.0 on Windows, but works for me on 5.0 on Linux? odd...). That's basically the spec + description for the slip-on :)
Re: the screen, I'm a tart I know but I don't like the look of double bubbles (hence never had one on the SV) - when I see the side on view it just makes it more sit-up than sporty. But, a friend of mine (same bike) has one and I have to say, from the rider's viewpoint it looks awesome! And in dark black too...luverly :D
Luckily I've not really had any issues with wind blast on either the SV or this (tested up to 126 mph, private road occifer).
On a completely unrelated note, I saw in another thread that you've taken pillion on the GSX-R (I think)? how did you find it, compared to the SV? I've not yet taken a pillion on the GSX-R but will be, and I wonder how it compares. I'm mainly thinking slow-speed control will be that much more difficult (since it is for me anyway, compared to solo riding on the SV).

Oh and yup- going to fit it myself. I'll post some pics when it's here + on, be a while though!
I'm gonna jump in here as well (Black Gixxer owners R Us :D :D)
I found taking a pillion was not much fun at all. The weight is so far back and up that the bike felt unstable at low speed. Not to bad when moving along, although Sam felt she was moving around too much under acceleration and braking (At one point she did join me on the front seat, braking for some lights). She also found that her feet were very high, due to the pegs.
She basically said she wasn't going pillion on the bike again, unless she had to. And she enjoyed riding it far to much too enjoy being a passenger ;)
As for the screen, at the moment I'm looking at an SR series Zero Gravity in dark tint. The SR ones are just copies of the shape of the standard screen, and like you, I don't think the DB ones look quite right. In fact, I'm probably going to order a bunch of stuff for mine tonight .... :D

Oh really :p!!!
As James said Pillion is no fun on the GSXR i had nowhere to hold on and hate holding on to the rider, as a rider myself i hate being held on to as i don't have freedom to move and it also feels unsafe... i like to be attached to the bike. Pillion pegs are too high to feel comfortable and after putting my weight through them in braking and accelerating it left my thighs and hips with cramp. every bump in the road you can feel and it feels as though you are going to be thrown over the riders head if he hits one too fast. And once or twice i slid forward onto the rider seat leaving James in quite a bit of pain.
Plus after riding the GSXR myself i don't want to be pillion again lol i want one of my own hehehe, but the sv will have to do for me for at least another year.
As for the exhaust i'm not too keen on the Akro stubby will have to have a look in the flesh so to speak. The Laser is sweet :D (in the cool sense not the cute meaning hehehe and yes i am biased) it sounds lovely and will look the nuts after James gets round to fitting the black cover back on the underside of it. I think stubby can's suit different bikes... imho the sv shouldn't have a stubby as it will just look wrong what they have done with the GSXR works and if there was an aftermarket can that looked like the suzuki standard then that would work for me :D
Of course opinion irrelivant as i don't have a GSXR..... yet hehehehe

Lol @ you two...
I think the Ti can won't look good on a black bike, but I reckon the carbon fibre one will blend in nicely - I think it will look like it could be a standard can (but not like THE standard can if you see what I mean!). One of the probs is that there are literally 0 photos of the CF version - if you do find one send it my way! Otherwise i might have the privilege of having the first ever pic of the CF version on the net :D
So comparing to riding pillion on the SV it's actually a lot worse? My gf (actually fiance now, I need to learn that!) holds on to me anyway (through those handles that strap on to you - but I haven't actually got them yet, used to borrow some!) and the position didn't look that different so I was hoping it'd be similar! As the suspension is a lot harder I thought the bumps, etc, would definitely be more noticeable. It sounds like the pillion pegs are in fact in a different position, from your description?

I've heard of people gutting the standard can if that's what you're after? To be honest, before I found out the Akra was available, I was thinking of doing the same - you can pick up standard exhausts for peanuts on Ebay!

Yes the pillion pegs sit higher up, so effectively bringing your ankles back further under your bum ;) you feel more propped up ontop of the bike than you do the SV and the seat is really narrow but the back of the bike quite wide so its in a very weird way of sitting on the back!! can't really describe it. I think she may struggle to be comfortable if she is very tall. I'm only 5ft so i would be less cramped than a taller person. (if all this makes sense).
Never tried love handles have thought about getting some for my little bro as he is useless at holding on properly, although like James i have now taken my pillion pegs off and replaced my hanger footpeg with a nice matt black hanger mmm looks good :).
As for the GSXR exhaust i will see what they have about when i come to change bikes. You never know i may not end up with a GSXR, depends what i can fit on because of my height (i have short legs but normal body length so i can fit from tank to handle bars not a problem but my damn legs are too short!!!).

She's 5' 2" I think, so not too much difference. Still, if you were cramped that means she definitely will be!
Hmmm, I've just realised why Sam had such a hard time going pillion on my bike..... it's cause she wasn't wearing the official pillion clothing for Gixers .... i.e. Stilettos, Strappy Top and short mini skirt! Obvious really....

Room please ;)
For the current generation gixer 600s n 750s the standard can sounds a treat and looks really good. The aftermarket systems on here look very good also and probably add a touch more power.
Here's one stubby(ish) on my bike which looks lots better than the standard can IMHO although not as good as the above.

Is that a Yoshi can? Doesn't look like the right sticker but looks like the can...I have to say that pic is lovely! So you would prefer the 600/750 exhaust on your 1000?

I took the pic a couple of months ago at the top of Fish Hill between Evesham and Stow, a challenging uphill sweeping complex of bends.
It's the proper titianium Yoshi tri-oval can for the bike, it was given with the bike as part of the K6 sell off last year so it has the for SUzuki badge on it as well. It's a lot shorter than most aftermarket cans and even has a cat and an alleged 4% increase in midrange !
I really like the current 600/750 exhaust but my 1000 does not lend itself to it, the nearest is the Scorpion that I've seen but that still uses the rear foot peg hanger.
I have now had two people on the back of the gixer and it felt very different with both.
First was my mate who I dropped off at a bike shop in Brum, we only went about 4 miles but it was horrible - I hated it. He weighs about 12.5 stone and the back end just sank! I didn't bother altering the suspension or anything cos it was only a short one-off. Front end very very light even on gentle (relatively!) accelaration and it was so slow to steer compared to normal. He went pillion once on the SV and it was easier on that.
My wife on the back was ok. :smt038 She weighs about 9 stone and it was much better, it was obviously different but not nearly as much of a change. She preferred the seating position to the SV cos she says you can see more making it more interesting and she thought it was a smoother ride than the SV, possibly cos of the relative lack in engine braking making the difference - it was only a short trip in urban area with lots of traffic lights etc so it was quite stop-start. She likes it better than the SV overall although she said she wouldn't fancy the idea of more than about half an hour at a time on it!
I think I'm gonna get one of those akro's when they come out - I'll have a word with the dealer I got the bike from cos he can get anything in (so he claims!) and I'll see what price he could get one in and fit it for. Just hope it doesn't make my premium too much higher next year!
Interestingly, I have now had my proper insurance certificate through and although I have got the £99 insurance deal this year it gives a premium of about £490. I'm going to use this as ammo next year when they give me my renewal quote and see what they say! Anyone else got their certificate from Express insurance and noticed this?
Cheers,
Matt

Cool, would be interesting to see if your dealer can get one in any quicker than 24th July - that was through the UK Akrapovic importer (and 24th is their next delivery date from Akrapovic). I am trying my best to forget about it for the month, the waiting drives me crazy! :D
p.s. I didn't do the insurance deal, I got subsidised insurance instead (don't have a garage so couldn't do it).
