That same thing happened to a friend of mine over here in the states. He was taking his new helmet for a test ride on my bike and he said the bird just aobut gave him whip-lash. At least you weren't hurt or worse, overreacted and layed it down...

That happened to a bloke out riding with his son near Easingwold in York. Unfortunatley it knocked him out and he was killed.

Happened to me as well.
Doing a "spirited pace" coming home from Stratford once, and a pidgeon flew in to the side of my helmet.

I reckon I was quite lucky, as I didn't see the bird, so I didn't tense up (as if preparing for impact).
I was relaxed, and unaware of anything until something hit the side of my head, and then upon checking my mirrors, all I saw was a large spinning grey objects, with feathers flying off it.
I don't think he made it... :(

a pheasant hit me in the visor at 80mph on the M54 its smashed my visor and cracked a £220 lid :( and er yes it did die and er yes i did have blood and pheasant poo all over me:( it felt like a house brick hitting you in the head.

they are indeed, I was following a truck one day when a pheasant flew out from the side of the road and hit the top of the truck, it disappeared spectacularly in a cloud of feathers

I met a fella once hit a bird at 90 and came off and done himself real bad. I had to duck for an owl in the Lincolnshire fens!!! last time I visited the folks on my bike. You get pheasents and partridges too. If I hit on of those and came off ok I'd go back, scoop it off the road and have it in a pie!
