Lupo has recently started howling at the icecream van. This is nothing we have encouraged and he will never do it if we are standing out there with him. I managed to sneak out with my camera on the phone and grab some video of him.

Don't think the neighbours are too impressed though.

My border collie used to howl whenever I played my saxophone. Bloody philistine... ;)

hehe, my ears p***k up as well when I hear an ice cream van. He obviously wants to cool down with an ice cream. ;)

very strange sounding.
I am not even sure I would guess it was a dog if I heard it.

I'm trying to remember what thet guy from Devon said...

... isn't it that if it's a higher pitched howl it's a defensive warning signal?

One was that and the lower pitch was a welcome/communication call - goddamn it I can't remember.

If he doesn't do it if you're there with him then it's either because he thinks you already know of the threat so his job is done...
... or you've already come out to greet it so again, his job is done.

I reckon he just wants and ice-cream too though. ;)

He does love ice cream ;) We went walking up the Malvern Hills, roasting hot day (Earlier this year) and at the end of it I bought him a cone. He wasn't sure at first, but then really got into it. From that point on he tries his "Jedi Mind Control" trick on anyone with a cone.
