My mate Lynne has just bought a usb memory stick and is finding it impossible to open a file from the stick, amend it and the save it again - It keeps coming up that the disk is write protected but it ain't because if you delete the original and save it - it works fine.

Are we doing something highly stupid or do memory stick things work like this?

I thought you could use them as any other disk drive:confused:

It doesn't have a little tiny 'lock-unlock' button hidden away on the case does it? Some of them do, and if it's locked you can't save or mess around with what's on there.

Mine is partitioned with a "public" area and a "private" area

The private area is password protected - have you stuffed the file in the private area??
