Its been noted in another thread that we are all in hibernation!

Just to prove that we do exist as a region on this forum lets have a roll call! :D Just reply to this thread and perhaps put what town you are in/nearest....

I'll start....

I wonder who said that? :-dd

Hopefully you all will be attending this weekend's rideout, as you might have a guest (me!). Last time I was in the region, only Sharka turned up to ride down to the Ace.

Present Sir!

Northampton

In all seriousness a good idea for a thread me thinks. I saw the same criticsm about the EA group and had a similar thought - that it would be good\useful\interesting to know exactly who we do have in our region.

More of a roundup to be honest - there is a rideout this weekend if you are up for it - have a look in the "sticky" area of this section :)

The August one is the South West Surfers one? (With Baphs being in Sept?). I've seen it, sort of like the idea but am not up for camping again so soon. So I'm an unlikely for that (unless I do it in a day again???)

What 2mths said.

I fitted a new horn to my bike and wanted a 2nd opinion so I popped down Far Cotton to see 2mths. It was about 7pm ish though.

If I ever see your (unmistakeable ;)) bike I would stop and say hello, which might save you some embarrassing girly waving moments!!

Perhaps some giant loop of EA taking in as many places of peeps as possible.

It'd be cool if you could do a huge loop started by someone who went round picking peeps up along the way, then as the loop is completed by the first person everyone else carries on stopping at their starting point till you have just one person finishing by themselves.

Completely impractical and far further than most people would be prepared to ride but I like the idea.

Err, umm  Not great at the whole organising thing - more of a follower than a leader but I guess I could get my behind into gear and sort something out - trouble is I know absolutely nothing about roads out Cambs/Peterborough/Northampton way! Now from Norfolk into Suffolk towards Felixstowe I can do!

I like the sound of that - if we were actually experiencing some better weather it would be worth organising perhaps!

He's in "Norf London" so that'd pull things further South and East of Rugby. That'd be Northampton then (especially if you weight locations by number of people there).

BBQ @ mine then ;-)

Thought i'd bring this idea back to life again, I have PM'd K to see what she thinks, i'm willing to make a weekend of it. There is a campsite in Northampton we could all stay at and then do a round trip, dropping people off on the Sunday. Reason i'd start it in Northampton is because i can never seem to find a decent road to ride on in Northampton for biking. So start here and go off and finish in Northampton. Thoughts and ideas please.

I don't think the idea is\was dead. Skips looking into routes and it's suggested that whatever gets agreed is run sometime mid to late August.

A camping weekend strikes me as a bit too ARish. The AR weekend was a great laugh and I intend doing it next year. But outside that I can't really be bothered with the camping. I'm not sure how many peeps would really be interested in this, ie giving up an entire weekend and going without creature comforts to boot. Also Northampton is hardly central and has little else to recommend it. What I'm really trying to say is that I think we should keep this simple and accessible, ie to just the ride.

If you want to look at putting together a separate Northampton centric event then go for it.

As for roads in Northampton. Do you mean the county or just the area around immediately around the town? I think I might share your frustration as compared to the roads of North Wales or Yorkshire they do seem dull by comparison. However the 'Rutland Ring' which I was introduced to a few weeks ago is probably the best riding around these parts I've seen (though technically a lot of it is outside Northamptonshire). I keep meaning to go round it again, but sort of cant' be arsed to go by myself. If you haven't done it and fancy checking it out I'd be happy to guide you round.

In regards to the camping yes i know just thought i'd drop it in as an idea. I mean all over the shop, i cant seem to find a smooth piece of road compared to stuff on the AR. I have a couple of little routes i have created for myself just that i go on as its en route to the girlfriends but that would be good mate if you would show me it.

K

What folks living in and around Northampton need to remember is that we've used up all our tarmac making new speedbumps - so most roads have a shoddy surface! ;)

Nice corners, good straights, crap tarmac - 2 outta three ain't bad, I just often wish it was a different 'two'.

Unfortunately I'm also completely blonde when it comes to describing routes - half the time I just bimble aimlessly round roads until I find some good ones then spend the rest of the summer trying to find them again.
That and, when I can, I ride for the pure pleasure of it - so that means nice weather - not much of that lately.

I agree that Northampton isn't the most appealing of places overall for a 'weekender' - it's one of those things too, with the North/South, AR/E/whatever, Invasion of the Valleys, North Wales Run and life in general...
... unless summer turns up we'll be out of weekends and into winter before you know it.
