View Full Version : Dorset Doddle - Social Evening 15th September 2007.
Just a thought would anyone else be up for a bit of a social evening after the run...if so has anyone got any idea of a good place to stay over in the area (near a pub !!) ? :)
Theres a few places to stay...
Theres a travel lodge at Podmore, but not much fun, but cheap.
A bit closer to Yeovil, in a little Village called Mudford and theres a pub there that I think do rooms, Its called "The Half Moon"
If peeps are wanting to come into Yeovil afterwards ( it is the closest place ot the start finish point ) then thats easy, best place to stay is in a pub called "The Alex"
Or failing that theres another pub called "Globetrotters" a bit further up the road.
If theres a few peeps up for this I can take you round the sites of Yeovil in the evening if you like.
Thanks Fizz,
Will wait and see if any of the others are up for this idea and then decide on where to stay....
Is there anyway of putting a poll up for this ?
Is anyone interested?
PS Please excuse the typos in the poll, I'm all clutz today and I can't edit it.
Edit Fizz...
OK peeps if you want somewhere to stay in Yeovil itself after the rideout to facilitate a few beers and some night life...
The Alex

Bike parking is a bit limited, when the Idle Banter lot came down a few peeps parked OK
Globetrotters is a bit further up the road, but not far, still town centre and IIRC parking is a little better here

Preston Hotel
A bit furter out from town but parking would be easier here. 15 minute walk from town centre tops.A

A bit further out again, The Yeovil Court Hotel, 30 minute walk or 10 minute taxi ride, parking no problem here though.

Or theres the Travel Lodge at Podimire, not much fun though but cheaper I would imagine, but then you've definately got a taxi in and out again.
Personally I'd try for the Alex or Globetrotters Lodge as they are both nice and central. So its going to make life easier.

Will ask the ball and chain and see what the response is like, it's lightly penciled in though!
I'd be interested in this, it's quite close to me. Would we all be riding home afterwards though/camping in someone's garden or are people finding somewhere for the night?
i could be up for this stop over! ill decide on the day i think.

I thought the idea was for a rideout during the day then a few beverages in the evening and then peeps ride home the next day.
My back garden is tiny so thats no use. I could try and find a suitable campsite nearby, but nothing springs to mind so B & B is probably the best bet if we are going out in Yeovil.
I'll have a google and get some prices on places to stay.

B&B seems the best idea. as it is a bit of a fuss packing tents etc just for 1 night, i will have to wait untill closer to the day to commit to the night, but i should be there for the ride

I've added a list of places that you might want to stay at to Mogs first post in this thread.
I can probably find cheaper places, but I'm happy recommending the places listed as I know you'll get a good nights kip there and that they are clean and OK to stay at.

Interested but won't know for sure until a little closer to the day (see if I actually like any of you after the Invasion of the Valley's, or indeed, if any of you like me!!! :-)). Definately coming on the ride tho!

Right chaps can you give me some idea of you're up for this.
I need to know quite quickly, as I want to enter a cyclesportif thats taking place on the Sunday and I need to get my entry in. If you want drinkies on Saturday night I'll give the cycling a miss on the next day if not. I want to enter and I need to get the entry off soon...
Dependent upon what time we finish the ride, I will be up for some soft refreshment before the drag home.

Hi Fizz,
I know I suggested this in the first place but I don't think there is enough interest in it for you to put off plans for the Sunday.
Looking at the poll there are only five others showing an interest and I am not sure if they were definates.
If we get back at tea time I am sure we can find somewhere to have an after rideout cup of tea and chat.
So as far as I am concerned I will give it a miss....sorry if peeps were banking on staying over Sat night ..but I guess they still can if they need to.

I cant see us being back to podmore before 4pm at the earliest... Theres a litte chef there that those that want could get a cup of tea and a bite to eat before going home, I cant guarantee the comedy turn there though.
Tiverton is a good 45 minutes away from Podmore in the wrong direction but if you're determined enough...
