Hi, a couple of weeks ago I made a suggestion about forming a N Wales / Cheshire group, however since that original post I have had a number of pm,s from peeps in Staffs, Shropshire and Merseyside. So I thought i would do a poll to gauge the amount of interest out there. Basically does anyone fancy forming a new group ? if so what do you want.
Cheers

I have voted as I think it is a good idea even tho not in the area as I think the area covered and options available warrants one.
On the other hand I think i may have screwed up your count... A Mod should be able to tell you how many voters are local.

Yes!! Would be great to have a focus group so to speak, and the area although large isn't so huge that you can't get across it and back in a day.

About time, I say...

I'm not going to vote, but I think it's a good idea, just remember that anywhere in Wales south of N52º18" is SWS turf :), Rhayadr and the Elan Valley is ours and we're sending VB out to defend it or perhaps clean it.

Quite correct. Lucky someones defending the territories. Does that include accross to Aberwristwif? 'Cos that belongs to us. But the Irish can have that funny sticky out bit on the south end (Welsh Soufend?), there's no one there.

True but doesnt doesnt ness mean that you are on the coast west coast just means westside How about the westside posse or sv's VTees etc im from north merseyside near maghull which is only about 15mins from skem i often go for a play around skem on the roundabouts  as alot of the local bikers do bike heaven not a traffic light in site. The bloke who designed skem was definetly a biker. Pity they dont shut the roads off and do a tt around skem once a year :D

Im not to be honest i used to go all the time a few years ago but sone seem to now and as i spend quite abit of time in northwales aswell (girlfriend lives there) i dont seem to get up there that often now. Plus i think when you go to the same place all the time and see the same faces gets abit old hat after a few years. Also the police clamped down alot and where starting to pull people for cans etc. Used to get alot of mad stunters aswell which was cool ot watch. Not been at all this year with the weather bein so pants. I cant believe there arnt more people from merseyside on here as i see loads of svs around, maybe they havent evolved as highly as us internet bikers :-)

I'm from Merseyside and v.close to you mototech ... I'm in Bootle. If you're in Maghull and you ride round Skem a lot, you may know Plough Lane junction with Wigan Road (A577) ... unfortunately, I didn't know there was a junction there  ... came off there last Friday evening ... bike's back now but still has a few scars (and I've still got the bruises). I've only been riding 8 months so could really do with a few more experienced bikers to go for ride with.

Lets give it a few day so that all the mods can see this before we make a decision.

You've got alot of votes, but as with all those things how many of those would actually turn up to rideouts etc etc.

When you ran the North Wales rideout recently what sort of numbers did you get ? Are there any plans for a weekly pub meet / social meet ups etc etc

We need to make sure that what you are proposing is sustainable and that it wont just drop away and become a dead section once the intial euphoria has worn off.

markmoto
24-07-07, 12:32 PM
I see what your saying fizzwheel but surely a group has to be started in the first place to enable it to grow bigger and more organised, at the end of the day how what does it take to add a northwest group to the website! not much at all, and it would allow all in the area to arrange rides etc. I say make it so number one :-) long live the westside

Baph

There were 7 bikes that turned up to that ride, but as was discussed on the ride, a fair number of people were possibly put off by the weather forecasts. North Wales isn't the best of places to ride when the weather is crappy (mainly as the weather can change quickly) but there's a few of us that don't mind that. :D

I'm actually organising another North Wales rideout due to be in early Sept (I'll post more details on this once I've sorted them out), and have had quite a bit of interest. Not only from local bods, but Plowsie (Northampton way?) and Stu (London?) have also expressed interest.

For those that want to know what's happening with this planning, I pretty much have the routes sorted in my head, just need to get together with Luckypants to make sure he's still up for it, then sort out timings etc. It'll be meeting at Ponderosa again.

As I've said to others, anyone welcome, no-matter how far you'd have to travel to get to Ponderosa.

No worries about trying to hi-jack mate, all input welcome. :)

For anyone that wants to come on the rideout, the thread is here (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=94025). EDIT: Regardless of how far you'd have to travel, if your comfortable with the distance, you're welcome to join the ride. A couple of folks have had a "quiet word" basically asking permission to attend, please don't, it's an open invite to all!!

Even if folks can't do the rideout, but want to meet up at Ponderosa on the day, that's fine. Just remember, they serve food/drinks, but don't take cards, so you'll need cash!!

Depending on interest it might be worth while setting up a "regular" meet. By that, because of the size of area, possibly once a fortnight/month? Rotating around various different points to save everybody travelling miles each time?

fizzwheel

That sounds like a plan ;)

Proposed meeting points are on this map (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=111365467879604716349.0004363cdec020602c4d6&ll=53.070927,-3.109131&spn=0.640287,2.557068&z=9&om=1). I'm happy to add to them (those are the places I know that are decent and accessible).

I reckon it be best that the meets be rotated around nominated places (once those places are agreed), just to save folks from far places travelling huge distances.

So what says thee folks, fortnightly? Monthly? Personally, I'd be able to make most fortnights.

Mods, a new section would also help us organise threads/posts about which meeting place for that given meet as well. EDIT: The sarcastic part of me wants to point out that if we had our own section, I could of started a new thread there for this very discussion. Sorry, that part of me will now go sit in the corner with the "D" hat on. :(

Have to agree with Baph - we are kind of in a chicken / egg situation here. A new board for the sectin would get us up and running.

Great job on the map Baph, didn't realise the area was so big!

I reckon once a fortnight would be a good start, until we all get to know one another.

Thanks Fizz, Baph that looks like a plan re the meeting places, although it does seem a bit heavy in the cheshire area, personally I would lose Ellesmere port and maybe add one in the staffs area, the only drawback with that though would be that quiff richard might turn up, ;) . Good one for making a start though :smt023 As far as meets go due to my shift patterns I d only be able to meet up for 50% of them anyway, how about fortnightly to start off though.

I'm with Stewie about making a meet in the Staffs area - not Bassett's Pole though (probably too far south anyway), that's MIGS territory! :smt014 :p Any ideas for a venue Quiff?

How about The Tap in Bromborough (Eastham)?
I've heard that a lot of other bikers meet up there.

There's also a group of bikers called the Rocket Motorcycle Club who meet up at The Turnpike Tavern in Liverpool once a month, in case anyone fancied hijacking their meeting (in the nicest possible way of course ;) ).
Don't think there's many of them so perhaps they'd be grateful for the company :D

Why the bulge to the east, what's special about Tamworth that your terratorial claim goes deep into the midlands?

The area covers staffordshire, Tamworth is in staffordshire. Nothing more to it. :)

Mid-week suits me fine too, someone else's turn to volunteer a day (friday?).

I'll be in Denbigh until 5:30, then meet, then ride home. Easy peasy.

We have to remember that no everyone has internet access mid-day. ;)

I personally don't see it a problem setting up meeting points to suit those that can attend, and then possibly growing from there.

If we get a section on the site, great, but if not it won't put me off turning up to meets. I probably won't be able to make them all because of family stuff etc, but I'd guess somewhere around 80% of them would be doable.

EDIT: I vote we keep conversations about the area to this thread, that way, the mods might see how useful a section could be (how many posts etc would be made). If a new thread needs starting for clairty, then fine, start it though.

Maybe someone from each of the 5 counties could propose a regular meet, or we could make it pretty fluid, thing is once we get a place to actually stick some posts up we would get even more interest I think

Can't make next weekend either - got the kids :)

I'm up for an evening meet though ... providing I don't have to ride too far ... I'm already doing the Liverpool > Macclesfield > Liverpool commute every day :P (although admittedly not always on the bike )

For mid-week I'd like to propose a Wednesday. Simply because sod all else happens on Wednesdays! I think these should be literally meets, i.e. all arrive, have a chin wag, admire bikes, swap stories (lies) and be generally bikerish, maybe a drink and food, then off home when it suits. Section ride-outs for weekends can be arranged via the forum and discussed at the meets also.

You know that North Wales is actually a number of counties in it's own right, right? ;)

I'd say to keep it pretty viscous. That way, we know what we're doing, but if there's someone from further afield that wants to join in (and is in the area proposed), then a meet could be put near them too.

Variety... spice... yadda yadda... life.

EDIT: Wednesday's work for me. Or rather, I see no reason for them not to work.

Lightweight!! That's 44.1 miles. My daily commute is 49miles. Every day I commute, I commute on the bike.

That's why she has 10x the mileage that any regular bike has. :(

Well door-to-door it's actually 49.9 miles ... so now who's the lightweight? :p

Ok, admittedly I may be due to the fact that I don't ALWAYS use the bike ... but TBH sometimes I just don't feel like fighting the losing battle against those "right-lane" hoggers and "random lane switchers", and the diesel/mud/sh*t covered Cheshire country roads (especially through Prestbury, which whilst a slightly shorter route, is caked in crap ... and that's not to mention the cobbled stones on a bend :smt119 I wonder who's bright idea that was?!?)

To be fair, I DID ride pretty much ALL through the winter (apprenticeship served! LOL) - only missed a day of high winds (which ain't much fun down the M62).

The 49 miles for my commute is if I use the A55, which is straight line work & squares tyres off. The A5 is an extra 15mins, supposedly.

"Right-lane hoggers" once you're sure are hoggers, are what the left lane was invented for, isn't it?

"Lane switchers" don't like switching lanes when there's a car next to (or either side of) them. Bikes are thin for a reason. ;)

mud/sh*t covered roads, have you ridden in Wales?

Cobbled bends, I'll give you... :p

Yes ... indeed :p and if I wasn't giving it some throttle to get past the feckless idiots, I'd be waving at them :toss: as I pulled back out in front of them!

Well after being an SV sandwich between Mr White Van and Mr Honda Civic Type-R who were DETERMINED not to let me thru (I'm sure I heard their wing mirrors rattling as I blasted thru  ) I'd rather not do that again in a hurry ... but if the gaps there, then yeah ;)

Only on my DAS (around North Wales) ... and didn't encounter too many roads like that (thankfully!)

That interests me (not only you living in Liverpool, doing DAS in N Wales), as I only ever see a small handful of schools out on the road. Local Liverpool school or someone further from you?

Well I was living on the Wirral at the time, and chose ProBikeMCT based at Deeside Leisure Centre (and don't mind giving the guys a plug), because they were the most professional looking school in the area (based on internet research only). That and the fact that I used to work at Deeside (Industrial Park), and so I knew a few of the local roads in that area.

They also had the WHOLE of the rear car park available for CBT, unlike some schools that expect you to learn the basics in an area that you daren't fart in!

And ... I'm too much of a gentleman to enter into any "willy waving" contest ... willy shaving? now that's a different matter ;-) :elephant: :nomore: :smt046
