I've just been told by my bike dealer that my bike could be written off due to the crash on tuesday when I got knocked off by a red light runner. I've got a 05 reg K5 naked with about 14k on it. Anyone know roughly what I'd get for it and what should I put the money towards? Gixer 600, 750, 1400? What do you rekon peoples? ;)

Prob try and fob you off with £2500 but should be able to get £3000 of them, see if you can buy the bike back and sell the parts off.

What Mototech said. Ask for a breakdown of the accident damage from the garage. You'd be amazed at how much aesthetic damage can cost and how easily perfectly good bikes can be written off as a result. I don't know how mechanically inclined you are, but unless the frame was knackered or it was a cat A or B write off, I would buy the wreck back and fix it up myself with parts from a breakers yard. If the front end was knackered, I'd put a GSX-R front end on it, etc.

You'd be surprised how cheap repairing it this way is. My bike had £1600 worth of damage to it. Even using brand new suzuki parts (as I needed them all v. quick and didn't have time to ring round breakers), it cost less than £200 to get it back on the road.

It will help your cause greatly if you get an impartial assesment of the bike. That way the other parties insurance will have less cause to argue the valuation. Presumably its gone to your usual garage so in the eyes of the insurance monkeys it may not be considered impartial.
