Great photos there Richie - Yes the weather managed to hold out for us. Looked liked it was going to rain a couple of times but turned out great. Managed to burn my nose and forehead so the current bun must have been shining.

Done a couple of track days before but that novice group was the quickest I've seen yet. Some of those boys [and maybe girls;)] could seriously give it some pace. In the first session from lunch I started directly behind Dan [WRCSixtyThree] and thought I could keep up with his ZX7. Not a chance, of all the bikes I followed around track Dan could lean that sucker like crazy. Seriously, it was almost elbow on Tarmac stuff. Hats off to his riding style [Dan - I know you had an 'incident' so I'll leave you to decide if you want to broadcast it.....see quote!].

In all a cracking day - Thanks to Richie for turning up with the moral support and photos. Dan - Happy birthday, hope the jet washer did the trick!! - see quote.

You sound surprised... or is that disappointed???

So since I'm here... I guess I'd better fill in the gaps. Let me start by just saying it was an excellent day, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

After Richie left, I went out for more track sessions, and had a brilliant time. Got my knee down, closely followed by peg and boot, :p and was driving round the outside of other bikes on some of the corners.

I got progressively faster through the day and was really on it by the session around 15:30. One small problem - all day there was a Hornet who at times rode with great brilliance, hooning round bends like a maniac, and at times looked like he was wobbling round CBT cones in a carpark.:x

Determined to get past him so I could get into a rhythm, and having to do it on the straight because he'd blocked my line into bends on several occasions, I chose a spot on the back straight and hammered past.

Coming into Tower, I was on completely the wrong line, but tipped in and drove into the bend. Pegs weren't decked out, neither was my knee, so I had plenty left... Looked toward the exit of the bend, and as I turned my head, I caught a flash of orange hi-vis bib, and LOOKED STRAIGHT AT THE MARSHALL.

Needless to say, the result was me travelling toward the grass at some speed, completely incapable of tearing my eyes off the spot I was heading toward in time.

Front wheel hits grass, grass is wet, bike goes one way as it goes down, I jump off to go the other and we slide gracefully :shaking2: to a halt.

Anyway, after recovery to the pitlane, damage assessment was good. One top fairing and it'd be job done. Bike still starts and runs, no other damage, happy bunny. :smt003

Then I managed to undo a ratchet strap in a haze of stupidity... and so now I need a right-side fairing panel as well, since my previously undamaged but muddy one now has a trailer wheelarch shaped dent and crack in it. :hackedoff:

So overall, my assessment:

Plus points:

I'm undamaged, and so is all my kit
Bike still works perfectly, no mechanical damage whatsoever
Had a brilliant day
Learnt a lot
Got some excellent photos, which I will post when I've sorted through them
Got knee, peg and boot down
By the end of the day I was one of the quicker Novice group riders (although by no means quickest or even close)Minus points:

I'm a pillock
Bike needs new plastics
I'm a pillockOh, and one other plus point... I done got me a streefighter :smt046

Yeah, if only I'd remembered to stick my knee out on every corner I'd have had loads more slider scuffs and less peg-scraping ;)

Dan, Ryan, Richie ..

Top day out, sorry again about your bike Dan, but at least you were trying and it's good to hear that you aren't letting it put you off !

I didn't realise you'd dropped it off the trailer !

Richie, good to see you again, hopefully we'll see you on the track soon !

Ryan, you were getting that sv over big style ... just watch it on cold tyres ! I could barely watch when I was following you around on the first sighting lap of the day as you were scraping your knee on the first corner. You've got bigger balls than me !

Cheers

I didn't think there looked like that much lean on those photos... there's still plenty of air between peg and track anyway :p

I've been keeping an eye on the site for when the pro photos go up... can't wait to see them... might well have to invest in a set if they're any good.

Yeah, the trailer drop was an expensive mistake I think... never mind, my own fault and these things happen. You're right about Ryan though - following him on one of the sessions I was surprised how far over it looked - didn't realise at the time I was just as far over!

Bloody fantastic day though

Yep Cheers for the advice Tom - After you mentioned the cold tyres thing I started to take the first couple of laps a bit easier. Good advice and taken on board!

I was pretty disappointed with the professional pics to be honest... there aren't as many half decent ones as I'd have liked really.

Certainly not £30 a CD's worth, anyway.

If you bought the printed pictures on the day, they were £5.00 each or when you bought 3 or more they were £4.00 each.

Oh, when we went on the Saturday they said the photographer didn't have any on-site facilities that day... And I'm still not convinced there's any that good that I'd want them at a fiver!

On the plus side, I have a realllly big box in my office... full of new fairings :smt112

From faired, to crashed, to naked, to faired - in less than a week.

New lowers and race top fairing from eBay for £50... and I have a bike with fairings again, in the right colours, right decals, and they fit well. =D>

I am a HAPPY bunny :D
