ok so when it comes to after market and tuning im useless.

so i am looking for a new (louder) exhaust and have seen this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SV650-SV-650-02-STAINLESS-OVAL-ROAD-LEGAL-EXHAUST_W0QQitemZ160133548902QQihZ006QQcategoryZ25 623QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) and wanted advice, i like this because im tight and don't like spending loads of money, but the big question is will it be loud and not sound like a wet fart

now the the newbie question, how do you get into the exhaust can to remove the baffles. now going back to my scooter days the can would slip over the baffle and then bolt on the the downpipe. is this the same?

also can some one tell me what this cake thing is they gave me with it says kendel cakes on the back but i don't want to eat it encase its used to seal the pipe or something, smells nice though i think its mint? should i eat it?:smt017

Eat the kendal mint cake! Don't use it to seal your exhaust!

Baffle, dependent on the model the Fuel exhaust either has a little bolt or a little rivet at the exit port holding the baffle in. If a bolt, undo, if a rivet, drill out. Then either pliers and pull, or broomstick up the other end to push it out.

Hehe they include the kendal mint cake as a good will token as they are made in kendal (lake district) enjoy :-)

it has got a rivet ( see pic )

once i have drilled out the rivet and taken out baffle should i replace the rivet with a small bolt so that i can put the baffle back in for road use or is there no need for fixing

Yep, get some self tapping screws from Homebase (dirt cheap).

but that bit that is riveted in only needs to be there when the baffle is in to hold the baffle in in?

If you ring them it says they also take credit cards which will mean debit cards as well.

As far as your previous thread, cans can sound a bit like a wet fart as apposed to a full system but I got a CCC can and it sounds much better that the hoover it was before. Also the removable baffle is only removable once you take the rivets out and make it removable. My CCC is the same and I've just left it in.

But the rivets also construct the whole can

Correct, rivet just holds the baffle in, and hence a screw only needs putting in when/if you refit the baffle.

EDIT: Just to be 100% sure I'm only talking about the single rivet holding in the baffle at the exit port here, don't go removing all the rivets :D

Just something to throw into the mix.

It you have a scorpion oval can (I know this thread isn't about that), and leave the bolt out, you get a slight whistle because of the hole in the can.

I've never really noticed it to be honest, but apparently it's there.

My advice, always carry the baffle (in pillion seat for example), and tools to re-fit it quick sharp.

yeah "i r to clever for dat"

anyways im all sorted time to get to it will probably do it at the week end and post clips of the sound and stuff when its on. Now where did i put that chainsaw!

ty for all your help guys:thumleft:

good point it will probably be to loud with baffle out and knowing my neighbors they will complain like hell, will probably run it without baffle just to hear it purr then will stick it back in

If you want to hear loud, take the stock can off (cut it off as you will be doing anyway). Then start the bike before fitting the new can.

That should please the neighbours. I believe it's an unwritten rule that you have to bounce off the rev limitter a few times whilst your bike has no end can too. I know I did. :smt026

Wideboy
11-07-07, 02:59 PM
well if its in the rules i must do it!:D

DoubleD
11-07-07, 03:28 PM
you have to start it after you have cut the end can off.... to remove the bits of metal that might have fallen down the pipe while cutting it off.......(yeah right, but its a good excuse....)

Enjoy the new sounds.... pops and bangs on overrun are very nice

Just saw this!! PMSL!!! :smt005

Good choice of can, I've had a fuel can on my SV, Z1000 and Hornet. Awesome sounds! Hacksaw was what I used but it took some patience and a lot of sweat and swearing. Make sure you cover your swing arm as you are cutting as you will get marks on it otherwise. For the baffle I think you just hack the bolt off? I asked them to remove it for me before they sent it out!

Wideboy
11-07-07, 04:36 PM
:smt037 just to clear things up i thought it was instant gasket because it had fuel exhausts slapped on the front then i smelt it was mint. that reminds me i must eat it :smt093

i was thinking of rapping it in masking tape marking it then putting a angle grinder to it? the exhaust that is

markmoto
11-07-07, 04:41 PM
Alot of people prefer the angle grinder alot less work but boy you better be carefull where the sparks land and watch it doesnt slip about when cutting.
