Was at the John Weir Honda invitation track night tonight. Fantastic!!! Had 1 to 1 training with the Scottish champion for the first 2 sessions. He was on an r1. Feck that man is quick.
Next session I was put out with the big boys - me thinking i'd be going backwards compared to these guys but no!. At the end of the session 2 or 3 of the guys on 600rrs told me they couldn't catch me. I was quite chuffed by the respect!

Yeah I was riding my kwak. Elbow's a lot better but still 3 months of physio to go. Knockhill's all right handers - it's my left elbow - so it was a lot easier than the bumps and grinds on the road.
Out the hairpin to the bridge the 600rr guys couldn't get near me but I was having to brake much earlier than the rr guys coming into seat. Butchers I was faster getting out but they caught me at the chicane. Out the chicane was where the rrs could have got me but I could carry more into and outof carlube then just pelt it all the way up to the hairpin.
Should see my tyres!

Just seen this - my instructor warming his backside coming out the hairpin - it was an R6 btw not an R1

You can be pretty quick when you set your mind to it, you know ;) THe hairpin shows up holes in people's riding really badly I think, that used to be one of the places I was pretty quick- so many people barrel in too fast, hammer the brakes, turn in too early and chop the corner, then run wide on the way out so it takes them forever to get back on the power. Often in the wrong gear too ;) It took most of the straight for most 600s to catch my SV when I got it right... And you should have, what, 20-25bhp on me? Can't remember which ninja it is you got...
Wigan was ace at the hairpin, it was funny to watch, he'd just run riiiiight round the outside about a foot from the edge so he rode about 20 metres further than everyone else, but he'd be going faster and leaning less since he made the corner half as tight... So you'd have the heroes diving into the apex on the anchors and he'd just roll round them

J2 600 dude. 111bhp according to the book. fuel can. no mods. I was on corsa iii's rest were on bridgestones and the shop bike was on qualifiers.
I was apexing the hairpin. The instructor gave me a wee tip. He told me that everyone holds a constant throttle all the way through the turn. Problem with this is that you have to be easy on the pickup.
He told me to set my throttle for the turn in but to roll off ever so gently towards the apex then pick it up again on the exit. It obviously worked!

Yep, about what I thought. Even though the RRs are better bikes, it's not the sort of night and day difference that can make up for a big difference in how well you take the corner, people get carried away with the latest offerings but it's nothing like as big a difference as they'd like to think... Nice work there :)
I stopped going from hard left to the apex, though, after seeing a few too many people fly through there after botching their braking  Or, take ludicrous deep lines that see them cross right over everyone else on the brakes, only to leave the corner about 20mph slower than everyone they just cut up. That's why I like Wigan's route, cuts down the exposure ;)
Need to get back there :( Even if it is just spectating.
