Uninstalling Linux Mandrake

Hi all,

Another one for the geeks among us I'm afraid. I've got Mandrake as a dual boot with XP. How do I go about uninstalling Mandrake, how do i go about making sure XP will boot without the Linux bootloader?

Did this about 2 years ago ... but you don't really want to do it the same way I did :rolleyes: I removed Linux ... and the bootloader ... tah-dah! XP don't boot :smt009 So ... after trying to manually re-create a bootloader for XP ... I gave up and re-installed XP over the top of the original installation. Sorry this doesn't answer ya Q, but tbh if you don't have a lot of stuff on XP it might be an option. Otherwise, can't really help sorry - haven't touched Linux for a few years now :(

1. Boot up with your Windows XP disc.

2. Select the option Recovery Console.

3. At the prompt, type "fdisk /mbr" (without the quotes of course)

4. Restart your computer.

Cheers for that but how do I uninstall Madrake?

In Windows, (once you've restored the master boot record), right click on "My Computer", Manage, then Disk Management.

You can from there reformat the linux partitions (probably stated as "unknown") as NTFS (Windows).

That will give you extra drive letters with free space (probably E: and F:)

To get back one single large drive the only (free) way is to wipe everything and start again.

Your best bet would be to use a linux live CD, such as Knoppix, and delete the Mandrake/Mandriva partition with Gparted and then re-size the windows one.
To remove the boot loader (which I think is LILO for mandrake), boot into the revovery console using your windows install CD and type "fix mbr".
