This was inspired by K's thread am i shrinking lol. Do we think it's possible to lose weight from a lot of riding? Just that i sweat like a pig even in the winter and i am all over the bike through corners most of the time. I go gym aswell and play a shed loada sport so its not me being unfit, i may just be a sweat b4stard lol. Thoughts please guys n gals...

Yes, you smell.

No idea mate, I'm pretty fit too but I doubt you loose much weight by just riding the bike. Maybe if you rode without eating for a week?!:p

Maybe if you clip another central reservation whilst wearing tracky bottomes you'll lose a pound of flesh. ;)

Wouldn't suprise me actually. It's mentally and physically tougher (esp keeping warm etc) to ride a bike than drive a car, this takes calories to keep going. There's going to be a relatively small amount of muscle work too, just to move about on the bike, this is probably dwarfed by any other kind of muscle work like the gym of course, but if riding is your only excercise I'd expect to see a tiny bit of progress in upper body strength?

After riding a naked bike I found I could head butt through wooden doors... ;-)

Ride mag did an article on this a few months back, I cant remember the figures but it did say that 1 hours hard spirited riding burnt quite a lot of cals. If I find the article I'll scan it so you can peruse.

I reckon it definitely burns off a fair few calories - every time I go for a spirited ride I'm knacked afterwards. And have you seen James Toseland's arms? :D

You sure that wasn't Razzle you were reading?

Why? Aren't your arms and upper body supposed to be relaxed?

I doubt the riding is what gives Toseland good muscles - he'll train as well. You'll burn a few calories, but really more by staying warm than real physical effort. Unless you ride off-road, there's some work for your asss.

You didn't perchance see that in Glamour/cosmo or something? ;) They had naked blokes in one section and one was Toseland I think. REALLY muscular but lean!! I think you do lose weight whilst racing, but it's probably negligable if you are just riding somewhere normally.

I remember that. Their figures seemed very high to me, approx 500 Kcals/hour I think. However this was for full on riding a sportsbike as hard as you can, climbing all over it etc. I reckon normal riding would be much much less.
