Well I finally got a serious go on a 675 on Saturday. My mate booked a 2 hour test from a dealer.

I only had 20 minutes on it, so not a big review, however:

It's small, it makes my 954 Blade look huge, and 5 years ago people were saying that the Blade was tiny.....

It's not as uncomfortable as you may think. Yes there's a lot of weight on your hands and yes the pegs are tucked up, but no more than on say an R6 or new GSXR.

It turns on thought control. First roundabout I came to I almost stacked it as I pushed like I would on my 'Blade, only to find myself falling at a huge rate of knots. It's so sharp.....

Handles ace, although the brakes are not as good as those on my '03 Blade, and that surprised me. But it does like twisty roads.

There is something very special from that 3 pot engine. It pulls and pulls, much more than any other middlewight I've ridden. And oh the sound, even from the stock exhaust is music.

It needs a decent DB screen as the windblast is pretty obvious. Other than that, it's a nice piece of kit. Would I buy one ? Personally no, for the same money I would have the new 600RR, which is not quite as focused, and probably has better build quality. However, if I wasn't a Honda fan then I'd go for one over a GSXR/R6/ZX6.

If you haven't ridden one, book a test, it's worth an hour or so of your time, just because it's different....

I had a 675 as a loaner while WIlma was in for service (the advantages of having a bro working at a Triumph dealer). I did almost 100 miles on it.

Its tiny, its fast, its arguably the sexiest bike on the planet and its British. The breaks are sharper than the SV's by a noticable margin, and its very agile.

On the downside...its a tad tall, the clocks are rubbish (tucked under the screen and tiny digits)the screen is almost useless at anything over 70mph (not that I went that fast officer) and I can't afford one. Also I would want to spend about £800 on cosmetics (exhaust, indicators, screen, cowl, probably a gel seat)

As a comparison - although not that useful as no riding was involved...
I have sat on a GSXR1000 and felt more cramped.
I have sat on a 600RR and got straight off because the seat was so uncomfortable.
I have sat on a new R6 and thought it was a touch too tall for me...and the dash is incredibly ugly.

Strangely, even though a Jack Russell has longer legs than me, I didn't find it that bad, in fact, I was on either on one flat foot or on the balls of both.

I'd hate to test an SV's brakes again as these were sharp, but not as good as mine (and like I said, my bike is 5 years old and I'd expect a middleweight supersport to be just as good...).

True, it probably is one of the nicest looking bikes around right now, and definitely the best thing that Triumph have done in years. I didn't have any trouble with the clocks, they seemed fine, but the position is so "over the bars" that I did start to get an ache in my neck, looking up all the time. But you'd get used to that.

Like I said before, if it wasn't for the latest 600RR I'd have one if I were in that market. Unfortunately with age (and illness) getting the better of me, I'm more likely to be on a Bonny than a Daytona :smt103

I must admit that I found the 675 to be too "focused" as well which is why I ended up with its "older" brother, the 955i daytona.

I think if I was in the market for a trackday tool and one came up cheap enough(or I won the lottery) then I would consider the 675 as a serious option...:smt023

Good time to try the camera out...all the best photo spots are on the GP circuit. I should be out round stirlings and hawthorns for the best part of sat/sun if the weather is good.

I wonder if the rear subframe, seat and exhaust from there 675 could relatively easy be put on the street triple? i'm not a fan of the street triples standard exhaust set up and would prefer the look of the 675 rear end.

Just had a look on the triumph site and they do an Arrow race 3 into 1 exhaust that looks the business.

PS I'll be at Brands all weekend.

I'm thinking seriously about my next bike now and would like a Daytona or possibly a street triple. Being 6'2" do you reckon they would fit me? My SV doesn't. Had to put lower pegs on for my knees to fit into the tank! I do find that being tall and lanky with long arms I can sit a lot more vertical so don't get the wrist ache some others do. I've heard this would be one of the main probs with the Daytona. How does the gearbox feel? Read yesterday that they can feel not particularly positive. Would I notice any of these little things compared to my SV (Only bike I've owned and ridden really).

The bike felt very tall and slim but roomy with it. The gear change was very positive, but obviously that could vary bike to bike.

The brakes were great and the spread of power good. Not as punchy top end as a typical in line four and still didnt have more grunt than the SV low down, but saying that the bike i am used to isnt a stock SV.

Id say test ride one. At 6"2 test rides are needed.

Jelster

Like Sarah says, the bike itself is more roomy than you expect. My mate who I was with (it was his test ride, I just had 20 mins on it) is a tad over 6ft and he found it fine.

However, if you are lanky, eg long arms & legs, you may find that you sit up above the screen, as it's pretty low.

Other than that, it's probably the best SS600 class bike I've ever ridden, but I've yet to ride an '07 600RR, which is, apparently, the dogs danglies of the class.

Test ride, test ride, test ride....

I wouldn't buy another new bike unless I had managed at least 3 hours of test rides previously. It's so easy to get a test these days and you need to experience "the possible suspects" before making up your mind.

DOH! Was monkeying about on the net the other night and I found a very good deal on a second hand Daytona. Test ride is indeed required, soon as. Time to visit On Yer Triumph methinks.

As a current Triumph owner I'd go out of my way to avoid OYT. I'll go into details in pm if you need to know why - drop me a line and I'll reply.

I'm not too much into bad-mouthing dealers in public unless they have been dangerously incompetent. This was bad enough for me to never use them, but it wasn't a safety issue.
