Thanks to the weather last night i am now spending the day trying to dry the house out, the whole of the ground floor was flooded to about 4 inches deep, i have now discovered that carpets float. The water only stayed in the house for about 45 mins but it was 45 mins too long. At least we are insured but it's going to be months before it is all sorted. Next time we move house it will be a long way from a brook or water of any type.

Daryl.

Luckily i had moved the bike and cars to higher ground, the water was only about 4 ins deep but all the carpets are ruined, we managed to get most of the furniture upstairs but the settee,s are wet, it'll be a full decorate downstairs and all new carpets, and prob a new suite, it's up to the assassors to decide what is salvageable, cleanable, i hope they coma soon but they are somewhat busy at the moment.

Daryl.

p.p. thanks for the sentiments guys.

Damn, hope it all gets put right quickly for you.

It is bad round here at the moment, live by welshpool and took me over an hour instead of 10 mins just to get round all the floods earlier.

I bet that's what the people in Alston (http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/journallive/thejournal/tm_headline=tragic-death-of-flooding-victim&method=full&objectid=19488588&siteid=50081-name_page.html) thought too. :(

Sorry to hear about this - and what a pain in the butt. Its happening all over the world too. In the last months my mums place was flooded in NZ. Inlaws lost their crops to hail storms in DK.... mother nature isnt happy.

Hey- sorry to hear this. I don't think, over the coming years, that this sort of weather is going to be a rare occurence any more. I reckon house prices up hills are going to rise!

All this rain is starting to cause my bike havoc again- as covers have been out of stock, it's been standing out in the elements overnight. Was knocking and stalling and losing power again today. God I hope the covers will be back in stock soon.... Bloody Motrax!

I suppose global warming will be blamed again...instead of the real reason. Local councils neglecting maintenance and upgrading of the drainage systems for 90+ years. All the road building and housing thats gone up over that time lessens the drainage quality of the land so it all runs off. The old system just can't cope. Add to that the fact that housing is very often built on river flood-plains and you've got a recipe for disaster.
You have our sympathies Daryl...hope you get sorted soon.

thedonal.....

Look at it this way, summer = warm = stand pipes and usually little rain.
Winter = cold = lots of storms and rain.
Therefore global warming = standpipes not storms and rain.

Global warming is full of contradiction mate!;)

Rotten luck I feel very lucky to live where I do at the moment.

I spent my weekend with very little sleep manning our Emmergency Operations Centre due floods. Had hundereds of houses affected and roads blocked making very difficult to get to people. Worse thing was the complete mindless morons who either visited to see what was going on or just insisting on getting to their party or whatever and blocking roads irrespective of the poor sods who were just trying to evacuate. An on top of all that my biggest daily moan - 4Xeffin4's driven by cretins ploughing through the water making waves and thus increasing the misery for residents, then the moronic idiots get stuck. :smt067 :smt067 :smt013

My sympathy and good wishes to all those that have had to be evacuated or dealing with flooded homes. Very upsetting for you - chin up:thumright:

You can't keep blaming councils for everything. One thing is they don't own the sewers and have very little involvement with them for many many years because of that. It is the water authorities. It isn't sewers at fault anyway. Neither can you predict such events that we have had. If everything was designed to cover unimaginable situations people simply wouldn't and won't pay for it

Hey - in a couple of months time will be suffering from a week long heatwave and having hosepipe bans because it was the wrong type of rain or something. ;)

Hope things get sorted as soon as possible though.

Times like these makes me glad I live halfway up a hill

I live halfway up a hill, It was like a river running down my drive until I did major work to improve my own drainage. Now the river is directed when it rains.

Makes me wish I lived on top of the hill.

Daryl. I hope all goes ok with the assessors/insurance, being flooded is horrid as the house will take forever to dry out, there can be a lingering stink. you wonder about damage/rot to flooring and joists etc. I sympathise big style as I had a family friend who suffered it 3 times. 2 weeks after he sold his house it happened again.

Unlucky Darylb! I am close to being flooded, I really hope it doesn't happen. Best of luck for you to get a good insurance payout so you can get a nice newly redecorated house.

Sorry to hear you were affected, good job you have insurance. Keep us up to date with how you get along and if you are stuck temporarily for furniture I am sure things can be found for you as a temporary measure from folks of the forum within your area.

I will certainly help if I can, you are not a million miles away from me.

Chin up dude x
