Yeah I was on holiday in America earlier in the year, in Wisconsin.
Saw about eleventy million Harleys lol. Some really nice customs though, well I could appreciate the effort that went into making them.

I saw the Harley you are talking about at a bike show, have to say that I don't get the harley thing either BUT.. That NightRod was something special to look at :-)
The back wheel is so fat you don't need a side stand!

I think they look great and I love the sound and the second hand market has some real quality specimens at cheap prices but the horror stories from people who have owned them have put me off buying one ever! I believe after-sales in the UK is a bit lacking too!

I wouldn't mind the new Buell 1125R now they have ditched the Harley engine.

I guess that you've never ridden a V-Rod if you think that it's got crap engine, crap brakes or is under-powered. The engine is awesome. I'd love the Night Rod Special if I won the lottery. It's a beautiful bike.
I'll give you over expensive, crap handling and American though.

No doubt there's another cruiser in my future. Not for a few years yet though... Thought I was goign to be stuck with foot forward for my leg, for a while, and the idea didn't horrify me. Tell you, I wouldn't buy a Harley though, I'd get the Suzuki Intruder, that's a lovely bit of kit IMO.

IMHO.........
Trouble with most H-D buyers is that it's all about image - otherwise they'd all ride Victory...
...and it's image that's killed the V-Rod - non H-D riders don't talk to you because you ride a Harley and H-D riders don't talk to you because you ride a V-Rod ("ooooh, liquid cooled and the wrong shaped V there mate, not a real Harley...")
You'd be surprised at the number of people who buy V-Rod, go to a rally and then go trade it in for a big twin just to fit in!
...if that all makes sense

IMHO Harleys only really make sense on the sunny highways of America....wet/greasy A-roads of Britain no thanks!
Then there is the whole you look like a tit part, unless you are wearing chaps and a leather waistcoat with of course no helmet.....just a flag motive bandana of some kind. If you manage to deal with that, as soon as you get off the bike you look a tit as you are wearing a leather waistcoat and chaps :) Its lose/lose really.

Get some screaming eagle pipes on to replace that standard system and your laughing.
Your all right about the image though, I'd feel silly in this country riding one, specially in my textiles and arai helmet LOL.
Still want one though,

Never ridden one so i cant comment...but the R6 is great for all variety of roads. A gixer 1000 would just be an R6 but more powerful....more speed on tap etc.
Surely it makes more sense than a cruiser?
Please say yes :p

R6's are luuurvley bikes, but surely on track only with sky high power band, surely a 675 daytona makes more sense because of the torque?
I've never ridden an R6 so cant really say they are unsuitable though.
I'd seen a few v-rods in the flesh, but I saw a night-rod for the first time at Craig Jones' stunt show in Stoke a few weeks back. Really made me want one. Thunderous.

Its still early days but its a bit of a myth that they have nothing except at high RPM. It pulls well enough from low down for an IL4 and if you really want to accelerate quickly it gets to high revs incredibly quickly. I've had a few 2 strokes in the past and they genuinely are bikes where it is powerband or nothing.
I am short shifting at the moment as i am running it in and its still easily quicker than an SV.
Its also such a nice all round bike to ride. I was previously of the opinion that it made sense to have an SV or something similar to start with, but the R6 has blown all that out of the water. Everything is better....brakes, suspension and fuel consumption has been good so far(probably because im operating mostly at low revs). Apart from the obvious higher costs to buy/insure i cant honestly see why it wouldn't make a good first bike!

Fine, but what has this got to do with wanting a Harley Davidson? Why do the British have an obsession with sports bikes?
I love the Harley idea, and will get one (when i'm a bit older ;) )

I was replying to a post by RW.....and i dont see why i should justify my posts to you!
Hello folks. Just back from my mini Harley tour in the States. Rode an Electra Glide 1600 miles round the desert in 7 days with everything but the kitchen sink stuffed into the luggage including ALL the missus' toiletries and make up. Stopped to get aherm....cough... cough... the brake lever repaired at a dealership and went straight to sit on a night rod. Felt lovely after riding the beast. Tiny and light, like a little toy! Reckon it'd feel funny for a while going round corners with feet forward!
I'd love one in my collection if I was minted. But I'm not. I'd still have a sporty little number too though.
Sod not being in the right bike gang. I don't ride my bike for anyone but me! That fella who sold his because he was getting the cold shoulder must be mental. There will always be go faster morons or rich accountant morons (UK's Harley crowd-he he he) who think they're the mutts nuts. I hate these people.
Tell ya what, I'd definately have a Buell if they were a bit more my size, cheaper and practical. (Not meant to open a tin of worms so don't).
