Indeed. A Johnny Depp and Tim Burton film has got to be worth a watch.
I understand it's based on the Broadway Musical. Is this true?

Keith, Don't let my wife hear you talk about Depp like that. :smt013
Though I fear you could be right about the old 'apples and pears' accent. ;)

I think Johnny's broken/camp accent worked wonderfully well for his Jack Sparrow character.

Yep, shame about the rest of the film. ;)
Watched it last night. Yes, it's a musical. In fact, there's hardly any normal dialogue at all, it's almost entirely sung.
Glad I watched it, but not sure I enjoyed it. Odd.
Burton has never really lived up to his hype. Scissorhands was good (but smaltchzy)
His movies are all style & no substance. Take Batman - after the first one, th producers gave him free reign & look at the mess that was Batman Returns.
Planet of the Apes, anyone?

Were you expecting anything else from Tim Burton? :D

Didn't realise this version would be a musical. Does Johnny Depp sing?? Think id prefer to keep him as Captain Jack Sparrow!!!

All film real ator musicals yes, cartoon ones like jungle book dont count really, so yep hate the lot Grease, mary poppins, bedknobs and broomsticls stc etc. For me its a perfectally good way to ruin the acting and flow of a film.

there's a tiny clip of it here, and is it me or does this Sweeney Todd chap sound astonishingly similar to Captain Sparrow? Don't think that's a good sign...running out of accents lol :)

I think he realised nobody but me saw From Hell, so he can get away with the exact same act.

Having seen the film Todd is much more Bowie than Richards if you ask me... Great film, the songs are all a little samey to me though.
Much as I like Johnny Depp, this really doesn't appeal to me at all.
Neither did Charlie and the Chocolate factory.
May at some point watch it when it finally makes it on to Sky movies.
Having seen the film Todd is much more Bowie

heehee I was laughing through the whole of that! Some terribly cheesy scenes at times but I thoroughly enjoyed it. And Depp can actually hold a tune, I thought it would all be a rumour
9/10 from me, think will buy on dvd
