Hi there,
been out 2day going to find out how much an insurance damage estimate would be,
and started to notice the bike feels like its disengaging after 5000rpm,
it just stops pulling, so you cant really get above 30mph
Any advice??

well it would help if you followed the guidelines for technical help (read the sticky at the top of the section). and perhaps something a bit more discriptive that just disengages.
Cheers Mark.

ok the more in depth description,
the engine is running smooth but is not transmiting drive above 4000 revs.

ok its a k5 pointy,
has a fuel can on,
none of this has given me problems until 2day,
has a shunt with a taxi yesterday and i wonder if that has anything to do with the problem.

still having difficulty reading the sticky I see, let me help
1) When you ask a question relating to your bike's mechanics/electrics/suspension/whatever please specify exactly which model and year of SV you have, and any relevant changes/modifications you have made. Actually put down all the changes/mods you've made, whoever is giving an informed answer will know if they're relevant or not. If you have a description of your bike in your sig do not rely on that as some people have sigs turned off.
2) Important this one - I'm willing to bet money, (anyone who knows me knows how mean I am, indicating my heartfelt belief in this), that 90% of the actual genuine technical questions that you might have about your SV have been asked before, many times most probably, so, use the search function: Which is here: http://forums.sv650.org/search.php
3) Many of the contributors to this site have much useful and potentially money saving advice to give you, all of which is given freely and willingly and in the spirit of helpfulness to you, so be nice to them, don't be demanding or rude and if you get what you need say so - like my mum said: politeness costs nothing. It's probably good Karma too - so it's for you as much as for anyone else.
4) Don't shout, it's bad manners and irritates me, this includes the title subject. Don't put forty-three exclamation marks after the title either, I assure you it doesn't make me rush to the post to see if there's an emergency I can assist with.
5) Write intelligibly. This is no comment at all on anybodies level of education and literary skill, but if we can't read it our willingness to assist will be of no use at all.
5) Post in the relevant sections.
Pretty please, with sugar on top, Sid.

Is it possible your clutch level is not releasing fully (cable damage maybe or bent release lever) - sounds like a slipping clutch to me, assuming the engine continues to rev freely above 4000rpm. If it is not engaged fully, there wont be enough friction between the clutch plates to transfer all the power to the wheels and it will slip.

so running fine accident yesterday, now the engine doesn't pull over a certain rev level, right wer're getting somewhere, is it clutch slip (would you know what that was ?) of mis-firing ? does it rev freely or stop at a set point below normal ?

I ain't very mechanically minded about bikes, it Rev's freely above it.
Yeah my friend says it is clutch slip.
whats the best way to fix it?

Which side of your bike hit the Taxi, wasnt the side the clutch levers on was it ? If so you might have bent your clutch lever and thats whats causing your problem.
Theres an adjuster on the bar for the clutch lever and theres also another adjuster by the gear lever / foot peg.

indeed, sitting on the bike, check for freeplay in the clutch lever (how far back do you have to pull it). also remove the top sprocket cover (on the left of the engine) and you see the adjuster on the other end of the cable but also a round thing with a screw in the middle, this is the cam adjusted for the clutch (do a search on setting it up right/ basically undo nut around the screw tighten the screw winde back 1/4 turn or so and then lock in position with the nut). also whilst you're there check the rod (comes out the back and goes into the engine casing) make sure it's not bentm and moves freely.

Take it to a garage and let the driver pay for it ;)

This has happened to me - the clutch cable on my cbr got slightly crushed after a prang and it stopped the clutch from fully engaging. Slippage only occurred at full throttle at about 10k rpm. I'm glad it was obvious straight away, would have probably worn the clutch rapidly if I hadn't noticed it. Mine was crushed by the lock stops or something in that area. Obviously check lever isn't damaged either. New clutch cable sorted it immediately.

i have taken it to my friend who is a mechanic, as the bike hit the taxi on the left hand side but fell onto the right hand side and lay for a bit ( i know i should have picked it up instantly but will get him to pay the bill)
and he is saying it will be due to the the plates getting drowned in oil.

it won't have held the oil if it was only on it's side for a little while, how long was it down for ?
