Ok, not about providers etc directly, its Tiscali and I have found them to be fine on answering their phones etc but this is annoying and can anyone explain this.
I keep losing, maybe twice a week, ADSL (Linksys router). Whatever I do I can get a connection unless I ring Tiscali, and after being told to reset my router blah blah, and telling them I a
have tried this blah blah, they reset *something* their end and all is well. Until it happens again, another call, another reset.
They are trying to convince me to try the modem for a week in case its my router as they say its either my end, their end or exchange. How can it be my router if everytime I call they can reconnect me?
I'm worried if I just change provider same will happen but with more trouble getting someone to do this. To be fair I always get through and they always do it.
So what should I do? Try the modem (can you run >1 speedtouch on one line? 2 PCs...)? Ignore them? I think its an engineering problem.
Advice?
... its Tiscali ...

Make sure you have the latest versions of software and firmware as they always blame everything else! :smt065

Its so frustrating, even for folks who know what they are doing, on the associated forums. Its bad enough me being told to 'check your filters' let alone someone who works with networking/telecoms all day I would imagine. :smt093
Mind you I know the call centre people have to deal with idiots too. Just be good if there was a 'middle way'.

Neither had I before, I was quite happy. And each time this happens they sort it. Its juts some kind of denial they are in.
well not really their end although they should have advised you of this!!
Now THIS refers to the noise on your line. On your linksys router you need to check what the Noise is. If this is too low or too high the connection will drop and you can either get it back by resetting your router or by them reseting your profile. ie the noise margin.
Are you connecting the router straight to the main phone socket or are you using an extension?

Extension. Noise was mentioned. They want me to revert to a speedtouch for a while (a week*) which is a problem as I am running two PCs from a router on an extension.
Resetiing their end works.
*sods law dictates I will be problem free that week.
I guess I could put the router in the mastersocket and wireless both to it???

tiscali are dog ****!! period!!
Not helping much really but I dispise tiscali - moved house with them - what a nightmare, they cant even manage the simple task of changing tel no's never mind move line over - after 9 weeks of being told 'were sorry, is there anything else we can help you with (you havent even helped with my main query) ' I decided to cancel my contract being I hadnt had broadband for 9 weeks and theire right hand didnt know what the left hand was doing - moved over to virgin and within 1 week I was up and running!! how cr@p are tiscali!!?
OK then what you might want to consider is rewiring your extension with Ethernet cable instead of the standard phone cable. I did that and my problems with noise were solved

Latest...
Using 600+'s info I have moved my router to the main socket and am running everything wireless.
Seemed ok, but dropped ADSL again last night. Its always at night when I'm asleep and nothing is happening (its very unlikey anyone else is using the wireless as Ive done the usual secures and its all oldies around here, doubt anyone is in range).
Now Tiscali say only option either to try modem, which will be a pain as socket by from door in hall and I need more than PC in use. Or they suggest turn off router (not just connection) when not using Broadband. SOund a fudge.
Ive also updated firmware on the Linksys, changed the MTU from 1500 to 1485 (or whatever) and set it g.DMT which some other folks have done.
Getting royally frustrated...
