Hi All,

My GF hasn't ridden her NTV650 for a couple of years, so she wants me to sell it. I started it up today, not surprisingly, it was very reluctant to start. Eventually it started, and ran OK, and settled down to tick over quite nicely at about 1000 revs. However, when I open the throttle it's OK until it gets to about 4000 revs, and then it starts to misfire, and the more I open the throttle, the more it misfires, and slows down.

What could the problem be, what do I need to check?

Thanks in advance.

Has it been stood with the same fuel in it all that time ?

If so first thing I'd do is pop the tank off and drain all the old fuel out, and then refill with new fresh stuff. Unleaded doesnt keep well and it "goes off" over time.

Is the bike FI or Carbs, if carbs you might wanna drain the float bowls and maybe strip the carbs and clean them as well.

Might also be worth changing the oil for fresh stuff as well.

Get on over to www.deauvilleuk.org/forum/ (http://www.deauvilleuk.org/forum/) and look in the mech and tech section. Those guys have seen everything, this one is quite common with ones left standing. Carb clean and/or refurb seems to do it.

I have a Deauville as well as the SV.

What you describe sound a lot like the problems a couple of folk have had with split carb diaphragms, but do the fuel change first.

Could be sticking chokes but that's not a common problem on the NTV type engine.
