I totally agree with what I think you are trying to say.
Something I've wondered about on this subject is if you were to film them doing it, along with their number plate etc. (Obviously while you're being a passenger :-) )
Would the evidence be of any use to the police? It's just something that really winds me up. Form a kind of vigilante (sp?) group???
Its an absolute nightmare, on my commute this morning I was nearly killed by car drivers doing the following:
1. Mobile phone call
2. Mobile phone texting, whilst trying to hide the phone in their lap
3. Changing CD
4. Playing with Sat-Nav
5. Reading a paper???
6. Eating a sandwich
7. Drinking a MUG - yes I siad mug - of tea/coffee
8. Putting on make-up, not me the driver!!
9. Reading a map
10. Playing with the radio
11. Squeezing a spot or something that resembled it
12. Changing lanes without signalling and for no apparent reason
13. Lighting a cigarette
14. Looking at a map
To name but a few............
OK - this is actually more like a weeks worth, but my point is that the drivers have no idea how much their driving is effected by what they are doing and being honest before I drove a bike I had no idea how much of an effect texting or talking had on my driving either.
Until you have seen the roads and drivers from on a bike yourself it is very difficult to envisage what the effects of poor concentration are.
Every car driver as part of their test should have a two hour pillion journey, they would be much better/safer drivers.

You'll love this one. Coming up to traffic lights at the weekend, Young lad in his red fiesta pulls out of his lane without looking into mine 'cos it's got a shorter queue. I slam on the ancors and ask the usuall question as I pull up by his door, "Don't you use your F###ing mirrors mate?" "Er um er um er yeah ok" Then I noticed the the huge cone of a spliff he had in his hand! OMG I let rip at him. I didn't know whether to punch him, take his spliff, take a mirror or take all three:eek:
After loosing my voice at him and getting the attention of everyone in the High street, I carried on down the road and got the attention of Plod on foot. I told him what happened and he pulled the F###wit over and said "Thankyou Sir I'll take it from Here"
Good deed for the day. 1 less F###wit on the road.

I see it every day on the commute. Drivers and phones. Sometimes they get the horn, sometimes they get the boot, it depends what mood I'm in. ;)

Problem is in our county that the police are so overstretched that there is no time to stop these muppets inbetween blatting to different jobs, although some of the local community teams will run some operations to stop this.
If there is an area where this happens a lot (especially at a certain time) ask for a CBO to come round and have a chat about it and ask him or her to organise an operation to target it.
Failing that get the parish council to kick up at the next meeting about it...
OR
enough letters of complaint will p*ss the inspector of that sector off so badly that he will have to do something about it....all aboard for fun times.

Yeah, what a bloody surprise that must have been.
There's never a sodding copper around when I need one, but they spend a hell of a lot of time sat on the hard shoulder of the A1 at the moment pointing their stupid ANPR cameras at me - although sat in a car by themselves, what the hell good it is I don't know.

Im not sure if I read it on here or somewhere else, as regards the phone issue. If you see someone on their phone whilst driving simply hold your horn down until they take note and stop, this is more effective if you are in a car as their horns tend to be louder, but surely us guys on bikes can have a go too. Simply beep continuously until they cease their call, if they look round as if they dont know whats going on simply point at them and make a phone symbol with ure hand, only if it is safe to do so ofcourse. This tactic normally embarasses people into stopping or if you have a loud horn they wont be able to hear their call! I think this is a great idea however I take no responsibility to car drivers who get violent or other daft things!

I've started doing a hand gesture that's basically :toss: followed by the hand sign for a mobile phone at drivers who are using phones.

Now, I'm not endorsing this kind of criminal behaviour. It's not big. It's not clever. It is however, very funny :D
Many moons ago I did a short (and very wet) stint as a bike courier in Nottingham. One of the lads that worked the same area had a tactic for dealing with cretins who cut him up: he had a can of spray paint taped to the side of his bike (can't remember for the life of me if it was an NTV650 or that shaft drive 500 kawasaki that every other courier rode). Every time he was cut up, he'd keep his cool and just filter alongside at the next set of lights, lean down and "tag" the offender. All round nottingham for a while you saw cars with bright yellow spots on their doors and you knew to give them a wide berth :D Perhaps if you could incorporate some sort of cut out mobile phone template then the police could go round and pick up everyone with a mobile phone graphic on their doors at their leisure :D

Was on my way to Paignton bike night last week and was in a queue of traffic being held up by someone slow on the back roads, cop car about 2 or in front of me...then a minibus comes the other way, driver very obviously talking into his mobile, you'd have to have been blind not to notice.
Copper did nowt

A lad I knew took his toe sliders off, drilled a small hole in them and put a screw in from the back, then put them back on, so there were little 'spurs' on the outside of his boots.

And smashes his knee cap, looses control of the bike and crashes?

At lunchtime I was working on an idea for a new, slightly more evil version of this. :D I couldn't condone this as it would obviously be quite illegal, but it would work somewhere along these lines.
1: Put a small tank under the tail seat, something like a model aircraft fuel tank would be perfect, and run a tube from it to a car washer jet pump. We may need to use resistors to lower the voltage to the waher pump to make it run slower, but testing will prove.
2: From the washer pump, run a pipe to something like a scottoiler delivery tube (black pipe) under the footpeg of the bike on your chosen side, so it sticks out beyond where any drips from the pipe could land on your bike.
3: Wire a push switch to a convenient place on the dashboard or bars.
4: Fill tank with chosen liquid, ie dulux emulsion or, for the nasty amongst us, acid, paint stripper, brake fluid, etc etc.
5: Don't get caught!
My usual response it to do the "been drinking" hand sign, then "phone" signal to my ear, followed by the " Vtanker" sign so everyone sees this person on the phone.
Its suprising the amount of peopel that then try to hide it and deny it... Phone still light up in their hands.......

It was fun to see bluepete trying to tell the beamer driver to get off the bloody thing as he was crawling up the M6 when we were on our way to the N/S. Even after Pete had spent time trying to point out his errors and rode on, he was still on it when I passed.
It would have been funnier, if instead of gesturing, he flashed the warrant card

My variant involves mounting twin paintball gun barrels under the fairing of my pointy, a compressor and tank and panniers filled with paintballs - which have had the paint taken out and replaced by brake fluid......

Chuckle, every now and again it would be nice to have some flashy blue lights :D
(not suggesting I'd like to impersonate a police officer, that's very naughty - besides, at 5'5" it wouldn't be a very good impersonation)
PS. WRC63 & Soulkiss - you're onto something there, there's a whole market for non-lethal motorcycle mounted vehicular weapon systems just waiting to be tapped into :D

I've done this. I have a considerably louder than standard horn. Pull along side and continue to keep horn button firmly pressed until they put the phone down. It gains everyone elses attention too.

PEELING A BANANA!!!!! YEP that's right peeling a banana, came fully halfway into the outside lane which I was merrilly proceding along, causing me to grab a fist full of brakes.
My langauge mist my visor right up!!! What a cnut!
A car pulled out directly in front of me as I was going round a mini roundabout. The car then stopped directly in my path because of traffic and nowhere for the car to go. It was whilst I anchored on the brakes I noticed that this person was actually texting.
I beeped my horn and the driver simply looked up at me and the straight back down at the phone. I was very very tempted to actually stop braking and ride straight into the drivers door. I am quite sure I could have done it and managed to roll off the bike without injury. In fact, on reflection, I really regret not having done that.

Hi Guys,
I was driving through Tunbridge Wells the other day behind my boyfriend, he's on his huge Tiger with Flo ex police jacket which is really bright. He filtered past this woman that didn't see him she swerved over nearly took his back wheel but cut me up. There was no reason for her to do it as I went past I noticed she was txting. I laid on my horn which is rubbish, lifted my visor and kept shouting get off your phone you silly bitch. She was so scared she through her phone across the car.
Now my boyfriend has told me off as I did this again to a bloke. The same on phone turned left without signal and jammed brakes on but as I shouted he reversed out and chased us down the road. I think his passenger stopped him chasing us but it was pretty scary. I must admit I was worried I only have a little GS500 and knew he would catch me.
What can we do !

You'll still give almost any car a drubbing if you wind it on. ;)
However, for this reason I'll usually only do the "hold down the horn" trick if I am stationary and there's no scope they could ram me. One chap looked like he was about to get out of his car to express his displeasure, till I stuck my bike on the sidestand and looked over at him, at which point, he appeared to find something very interesting to look at in his footwell.

Yes, using a phone can be hazardous; but as far as sensible driving practice goes, bikers are hardly ones to lead by example.

I've seen people smoking a massive spliff at the wheel, on more than one occasion. Lucky you for seeing a policeman at the right time. I managed to flag down a traffic cop and give him the reg of the van where I saw the driver toking on a large one, but it was in the middle of a traffic jam, so he couldn't do a lot.
I do a lot of miles with my team and we're fovever seeing tw*ts at the wheel, phoning and texting, drives me nuts.
But just for a change we saw loads of traffic cops on the M6 this morning pulling people over. One was an unmarked BMW black or very dark grey Southbound near Sandbach services. So beware
Only if you were on the Dully tho
Yup indeed.
How many people does the possibility of £60 and 3 points stop breaking the speed limit?
Nail on head!
I see people doing it all the time.......I also see people speeding all the time.
It wont stop anyone, some people are completely incapable of speeding.....yet some people are completely fine speeding.
Its the same with phones, some people are capable of driving whilst on the phone, some people are a complete liability.
Not that I'm condoning either.
