A friend of mine put me onto to this, it's a great map of the French Alps.
Published by IGN, it's called "Routes des Grandes Alpes"
It's a shaded relief map that highlights the scenic backroads through the Grand Alpes, but it also gives details of the hights and steepness of the various passes.
Available from Stanfords - www.stanfords.co.uk (http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stanfords.co.uk%2Fstock%2Frou te-des-grandes-alpes-102401%2F&ei=Nii4Ro20OZHGnAP8pfDSBQ&usg=AFQjCNG_gBP7NAvnfDUHH5x5lNso2FxE-Q&sig2=FFOdrDQ5xpxcMow3jme1Iw) (there site was down this morning) for about £6.00 plus carriage. You can get it from Amazon, but it's expensive & they don't stock it.
It's currently on the wall in my office as I ponder my choice of routes.. Just 16 days until I go on tour \\:D/ :riding:
If anyone else has any suggested maps/books, let me know and I'll make a list and sticky it.
