Mrs Ones says she thinks I should get a new bike. I have an SK5 with lowers and 26k on the clock to trade. (I have about £100pcm to spend). What should I get?
Wondering if I could haggle a CBR1100XX for that!
Ideas? It needs to look sporty and be able to stand the 13k miles a year I do for at least the next 3 years.

VFR750/Last Good 800, or any of the pre-1000cc Blades I reckon... Though they might push your budget to get a good one of any of those? CBR600F?
get the ZX-6R on 0% for 3 years. wth the trade in upping the standard £99 deposit you might be able to get the payments down to £100PCM

Last model of ZX6R reacted to winter the same way most bikes react to acid, though... From what I've seen lately kwak are even worse than suzuki.

New Fazer Thou' It looks sporty for a semi faired bike, and handles better than some 3 or 4 year old litre super sports machines (so the man in the showroom said...).
For that amount of miles I reckon it's a good choice. Or, as Andy says, 00-03 'Blades (929 & 954cc) are great mile munchers but still have plenty of sports prowess.
I very much like the new Triumph Street Triple 675:

Well, first shock of today was the rediculous variations in prices. VFR800 in Watford £6700 ish in Letchworth it was £8700 ish (with a reluctance to haggle with me - bad, bad move I think!) At £8700 the VFR was only £150 cheaper than a CBR1100XX. So as Mrs Ones put it,"Brand spanking new Blackbird £150 more than brand spanking new VFR, excuse me, do you ever sell a VFR?"
I did stumble on a bike I hadn't even considered though, and at a gorgeous price! Bandit 1250S with ABS under £5,500 brand new. I might be going back for a better recce!!!

Theres always a Blackbird parked up next to my smoking spot at work, absolutely beautiful looking bikes! I'd go one of those given the decision.

If you've never ridden a 'Bird you're in for a bit of a shock.
They look heavy and cumbersome but when mobile they are so easy to ride. They filter well, and on my first large roundabout I scrapped the pegs, that's how easy they go round corners. Admittedly, it's no supersport bike, but it surprised me how nimble it was for such a big bike.
I can think of a couple of reasons why the VFR would sell over the CBX. Mainly if you really like to rag your bike down country lanes etc, the VFR will do this quite happily - its a tourer that wants to be a sports bike. The Blackbird has more finesse and gives the impression of "slow" when it's actually bloody fast.
Both are great bikes - there are rumours of a new VFR next year, possibly a litre engined V4.

Been back to the Bandit1250SA.
I'm off to haggle tomorrow!!
Problem is - I can t find one to try first, so I am having to rely on reputation, which is good. The Blackbird was too far beyond the budget, besides the tyres would kill me - I do best part of 14,000 miles a year!!

Heh, it's from Honda's inexplicable triangular phase :)
What's most amazing about the Blackbird to me is just the age of it... Like the Busa in fact, it's more or less unchanged since it was launched, but it still looks as good and works as well as it did then... Nothing's beaten either yet. It might not be as, well, demented as the Busa but I know which one I'd sooner have in the garage. Not really my sort of bike at all either, I wasn't expecting to be so impressed.

Try and stretch your budget to £200/month and get a Ducati 1098

You had to say it didn't you? 8-[ I'm going to have to go and look at the pictures again now! I hope you realise you've ruined my Friday evening and I probably won't sleep tonight then the nightmares will start about the Ducati factory burning down. :smt088
I'll have to start taking the tablets again and wear that funny shirt thingy....it was horrible in that institution....even the doctors name was Giuseppe!
Its only a bike dude...its only a bike... a red bike....with sensuous headlights and smooth flowing lines broken into jagged relief by strikingly moulded accessories! OOoooh I can feel another attack coming on! :flower: :smt003

Is that £200 pcm to buy it, or £200 pcm to repair it?
I commute - I like to think I stand at least an evens chance that my bike will start in the morning!

Ah, now, be fair. It's only had 2 recalls, and only one of them was likely to cause death :)

If you're doing loads of miles.....Triumph Sprint ST '07
1. It's a beautiful bike, you gotta love the underseat tripple exhaust
2. It's fairly cheap to buy, 6k will a secure you a great example
3. Brilliant for commuting, can haul a lot of baggage easily
4. Superb sports bike, would tip my hat to anyone who could ride it to its full potential
5. It's British :D
Just make sure you buy it as new as possible, and double check the warrantee to see how comprehensive it is...Triumph build quality doesn't have the best reputation

Didn't happen.
I didn't go because of other things.
Bugger - I will see if the will is still there later in the week
