After 20+ years of using 4 wheels and 2 years plus of dropping hints and generally nagging the missus I have finally had permission to get a bike again. I used to have a Z650 and was really tempted by the Ninja but after a lot of research and weighing up all the facts I have decided an SV650 is my best option.

I looked at buying a nearly new one but in the end I have the money from selling my VX220 to buy new so had a word with my mate who runs a local bike shop and I am going to pick it up 1st week in Sept, can't wait.

He is going to sort me out with a 1 hour training/familiarisation session but would anyone suggest anything else after being off a bike for so long?

Anyway just wanted to say Hi and looking forward to participating on the forum, really enjoyed the Vx one and this sounds just as friendly.

Hi.Welcome to the madhouse.
A couple of things you will notice about modern bikes. The tyres are better and the brakes actually stop the wheels turning if you are not careful.Enjoy.:p

Hire a 125 for a couple of days just to get used to the roads, The SV is quick compared to bikes 20 years ago (i was suprised at the difference after 15 years off) but not as quick as some and is great to get back into biking again.

Enjoy

I'm based in Pershore, Worcs and will get round to updating All my details.

Sounds like I'm going to have to get used to the brakes.

I have been looking at doing some refresher training, with bike hire included hadn't thought about just hiring one, great suggestion.

Ahoy! :D

Pop in to your local rider training centre and get them to give you the born again package. You'll learn stuff you never knew as well as remember the old stuff. And it'll be fun!

Shame about the VX though :(

Not sure the SV's brakes are too much to worry about! Great bike though, you will thoroughly enjoy getting back to biking. There are also some very good deals in the "For Sale" section if you fancy not buying new.
