Suzuki crash bungs

I asked my dealer for a price on some crash bungs for my fully faired k6, the price was £31, sounds very reasonable. Unfortunately my local dealer is useless and knows nothing about bikes so couldnt tell me if they required the fairing to be cut at all. So I thought I'd ask to see if anyone here knows or has experiences of them. Some pics of some fitted would be great!

Neither the Suzuki OEM bungs or the R & G bungs require the lowers to be cut.

However the Suzuki bungs are useless in the event of an off, and from our experience they cause more damage than would have been done if they werent on the bike.

Spend a bit more and get R & G's

Are there any other reputable makes other than R&G? I think if you paid £90 you paid a bit over the odds. I have seen R&G for around £60. Is it the bungs or the bolts on the OEM itmes that let them down? Due to my job I can "acquire" very high quality stainless bolts. With the OEM was it a case of the bolts folding up? I've heard of this on cheap bungs.

Not sure about the last bit of your post, but the going rate for fully faired R & G bungs are £90, the half faired are a little cheaper at around £70.

I put R & G's on mine after going through the exact same thinking process - was tempted with the Suzuki ones, but with the reviews I thought it was best spending a little more to get the R & G's. To be honest, the workmanship on them is very good. you get the bungs, 2 aluminium spacers - very chunky and cut around the frame, and a replacement spacer which slides all the way through one of the engine mounting bolts.

Not sure if the others are so well engineered, but I suppose you pays your money...etc..

Has anyone got any pics of either R&G's or OEM bungs? Or any other brands. Im tempted to have a go at making my own as I can utilise machinery where I work. If I was to do this are there any good/bad features people would recommend I include/exclude?

Its the bracket that the bungs bolt onto on the Suzuki bungs thats the problem.

R & G's bolt on direct using the engine mounting bolts, The Suzuki bungs have a curved bracket that the bung bolts to and then the bracket bolts to the frame. When you have an off, the bracket bends as its made of cheesemetal and then the bung bends in against the fairing and cracks the fairing, its a terrible piece of design

the R+g ones are well worth the money, they arent the same on the pointy as they are on most other bikes, theres a huge billet aluminium block that spans 2 engine bolts behing the fairing for the bung to bolt into.

the suzuki ones are sh1te, i dropped by bike off its stand and the mount snapped, and split the fairing at the same time, when i questioned suzuki, they said that theyre not crash bungs theyre "frame protectors", theyll probably protect the frame, but smash £4-500 of plastic in the process.

look on r+g website youll see why theyre £90, they are a serious looking piece of kit.........

Well I can now safely say I will not be buying the OEM ones, are R&G the only company that do any that are any good? I've seen the pics on their website and they do look like a quality piece of kit, and they don't look ridiculous either! Im seriously leaning towards the R&G's, still looking for alternatives. I just want to be sure that I've looked at all the options.

I took the R&Gs off mine since they folded up in a fairly light slide from about 30mph... Search around this forum and you'll find plenty of examples of them failing completely, the bracketry's fantastic but the bung itself's too weak IMO. I don't trust them at all. But having said that, they're still about 10 million times better than the Suzuki ones, and they're the only option that doesn't involve cutting the fairings. Their location's good too- bungs that bolt through the main engine bolt end up fairly low, so the bike can roll over the bung in a faster crash.

They did protect a bit, to be fair, but not as much as they would have if they'd not folded up like that. That was maybe 30mph in gravel, didn't hit any solid objects, about as gentle as a proper crash gets.

I'd sooner cut the fairings and fit Motosliders or GSG Moko though, both are more protective IMO and Motosliders are far cheaper too.

I paid £70 2 years ago so £80-90 is prob a fair rate
