600 mile service on a new bike will be due in 3-4 weeks. Does it matter of done at a dealership, or can I just go to my local bikeshop and get it done?
Glanced through warranty and didn't see anything saying has to be dealer serviced, might have missed it though.

Catch is dealer is 40 miles away, local is <1.

Dealer that sold you the bike will have the labour for the first service included in the price. Give then a phone to ask if this is the case. Book early- you'd be amazed how long the waiting lists are. (and do more than 150 miles a week! ;) ffs! It's a new bike- you shouldn't be off the seat!)

Your local dealer has to use Genuine Suzuki Filters I believe and do everything according to the schedule.

Has he experience of SV's?

I'd be going to the official one for the first service really. Like G2D says, the first one is normally free labour, think mine cost £15 for sundries. They always say the first one is the most important, and is supposed to cover things like making sure nuts & bolts are all in at the right torque and the like and that everything's bedded down right.

Same as minimatt, was about £20 for sundries, you should really get it done as the bike has "running in oil" which I believe is a lot thiner than the normal oil. someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Did the dealer not mention the first service when you picked it up.

I did, and nothing (relevant) showed up. Search term first service.

Did the dealer not mention the first service when you picked it up.

Only thing he said about it was give him a call when I'd done 450 miles

and do more than 150 miles a week! ffs! It's a new bike- you shouldn't be off the seat!

150 per week is normal for me when commuting. A 30 mile run per day does me nicely while getting used to new bike. I'm finding it very wrist heavy and my grip strength drops dramatically when I get off after a long run. If its a nice sunny weekend, might see about a trundle up to Lancaster over Pilling Sands or somewhere, maybe even the lakes if I can be bothered, and no tourists.

If it were me I'd get it done at the dealer, remember 1st service isnt just an oil change, they are supposed to go over the bike and check that everything is as it should be and that all the bolts etc etc are tight and that nothings come loose whilst the bikes been bedding in...

Yeha lakes gets bogged down in summer. Such a shame, that's why I love the north east so much, we haven't got that yet....
